Why you should consider blogging for your small business?

Blogging, once reserved for the individual person who was eager to post about his life story online, is now a powerful tool in the hands of business entities worldwide. Why is this so? What makes blogging so interesting for businesses? Should you jump in the bandwagon as a small business? These are the questions that we will be answering in this article and you should continue reading if you want to learn more on this.

Become an “expert” in the field

A pet shop owner can opt to create a blog where she will be providing regular articles on caring for pets, diseases and feeding tips. This will allow her to position her as an authority on the subject and it is very likely that sooner or later people will make use of the comments form in order to interact with the owner. This is a great way for small business owners to grow their customer base and interact with people. It is only a matter of time before these customers will walk in the store in order to talk in person with the owner.

Interaction with your clients

Blog offer a great way to interact with your clients. Not only for providing information as mentioned above but also to receive feedback. In case of problems customers will feel that there is someone that they can interact with and report to. However you should make sure that you respond to comments regularly to make sure that this is not only a one-way traffic. In the same way there will also be user-to-user interactions on the site thus encouraging the creation of a community around your blog.

SEO benefits

We cannot overemphasize the importance of organic traffic for small business. As a small entity you may lack the financial strength in order to fight against the big companies that will invest massively in PPC. A blog will allow you to get the unique and fresh content that search engines bots crave for. As a result you may end up getting tons of long-tails searches for your products or services. Additionally blog post can also be useful when it comes to link baiting as other webmasters may find it more convenient to link back to a blog post rather than a website.

These are only three ways that a blog may benefit a small business and there are many more benefits that exist. But these three are arguably the most important ones for small business owners.

Re: Startup blogs Re: Startup blogs - If you are thinking about starting a small business or a home-based business, then one thing you can do is start blogging about stuff in your proposed business field as a way to (1) get your ideas straight and start researching your field. (2) build up a presence on the web before you launch your business. Sure, once you get to the set up phase, assuming your business operates offline or mainly offline, then blogging may be less of a priority compared to the more urgent stuff.

Re: Help with adwords Re: Help with adwords - We strayed a bit from our Adwords when the campaigns began to struggle a bit this year - we replaced our efforts into pure content creation (blogging) and have been seeing much better results. Find a knowledgeable web person - have them setup a blogging tool on your own website (so use your own instance of something like WordPress rather than having a blog on another application like Blogger.com etc.). Start creating your own content - you know your own business the best, and you are likely in the best position to generate serious amounts of content about your business. In the end you will still have this content, and it will be on your own site. Adword campaigns expire, yet the content you create will be yours forever! Good Luck!
