Legal Marketing: First steps for a law firm adopting social media

If you law firm is getting immersed in social media, some simple, initial steps will accelerate your learning curve and make your efforts more productive.

It’s important to understand why social media is such a great tool for:

Social media can be a bit overwhelming at first. To help legal professionals “get it” quickly, I recommend that they simplify the process by doing only 2 things over the next 30 days: Read and Write.

The first step is to develop your online reading habits. Instead of constantly searching for information, use an RSS Reader (RSS = Real Simple Syndication)to have the content sent to you in a central location.

I prefer using Google Reader. I make it a habit by starting each day by opening my RSS Reader. I have feeds from blogs, news sources, research, weather, sports all coming to one place. It saves a lot of time and keeps me from becoming distracted. I can scan through hundreds of articles for the important nuggets of information that will keep me ahead of the learning curve.

Through Google Reader you can also have your incoming content sent to specific folders to keep your reading organized. I can also easily save and share important information quickly through a number of tools that I have added to my browser bar (PressThis, Bit.y) without having to leave my Reader.

Secondly, I want to stress the importance of writing.

I truly believe that you don’t know what you know until you write it down.

All of us can improve our communication skills.I’ve found that writing regularly for your blog:

The only way you are going to “get social” is to do it. It has to be experienced first hand.

The vast number of law firms aren’t leading in social. They are playing catch up. These two things, reading and writing, are the best ways to get you to where you need to be, in a position of leadership for your staff and clients.

Re: Social Media Marketing - Corporate Vs. Small Business Re: Social Media Marketing - Corporate Vs. Small Business - There are various marketing techniques which are very closely related to social media marketing, such as Search Engine Optimization, Search Engine Marketing, and Social Media Optimization. Social media sites provide a huge variety of subjects, topics, and discussions to choose from. A social media web site can be defined as a common ground, where individuals gather together to share their views and opinions. Social media has also adapted various mediums such as audio, video, and textual mediums. There are few guidelines in order to successfully implement social media marketing. Improve the ability of your website, so that it can be linked to other sites easily. All the incoming links are unique, so treat them properly by providing dedicated space for them. In order to be successful at social media, the following steps can also be very useful. First, create forums on your own web site. Provide interesting topics so that people would like to participate and interact with each other through your site. Keep updating information and news to attract your visitors. Compose podcasts and use the clips to promote your products.
Re: Twitter, Social Networking: What's Your method? Re: Twitter, Social Networking: What's Your method? - The bottom line: You can have thousands of friends, and it takes only a second to add one, if you don't make conversation with them, it is a useless tool, like all social media sites. I know many people who concentrate mainly on social media marketing, and they make money, but it takes time. Personally, I rather skip social media and focus on other stuff, like article marketing, and I use social media only for fun and communicate with best friends.
Re: Real Estate via social networking? Re: Real Estate via social networking? - Now day’s people love to busy on Social media websites especially on Facebook. They are also using internet for all other usual task of their life. They are getting all things on social media sites that's why social media transfer lot traffic to website.
Re: Social Media Marketing Ignorance Re: Social Media Marketing Ignorance - Has anyone read any good books on social media they'd like to share? I've been considering reading one, but wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations on an informative one. Someone earlier mentioned a lack of time. That is one reason I'm still in the dark ages as well but I realize that I may be falling behind the times by not at least considering the business case for social media against the time consumption. I'm also hesitant to use facebook and the like fearing it will turn into a platform for old friends to reconnect v. a way to grow my business. I also am unsure how much time it really takes to maintain various social media...any thoughts? Anyone made any mistakes or had any huge successes using social media for business that they'd like to share?
Re: How much is social media part of your marketing strategy? Re: How much is social media part of your marketing strategy? - Most of the companies make gross mistake by using techniques listed on the internet without even looking into whether they are suitable for their business or not. If you are dance company, music company etc etc then you simply cannot afford to ignore social media. There are several other businesses which perform well in social media promotion. You need to look whether social media will help your business or not. If you see huge pool of customers who are searching for your services on Youtube, metacafe, then surely you must jump for it.
