According to Fortune Magazine in an article titled Rising Stars, dated February 6, 2006, the biggest problem facing management today is finding skilled, effective mangers who can communicate and motivate others. Many companies are getting serious about growing their own leaders. Trouble is, they aren't very good at it.
What is the solution ?
Managerial and Leadership coaching and training is a must for all organizations. What are the aspects to be focused upon is given below:
Basic managerial skills called as POLCA - Planning, Organizing, Leading, Communicating and Achieving.
Understanding and Managing Change.
Understanding the relationships between Authority, Power and Influence.
Understanding managerial styles and situational leadership.
Decision making and problem solving skills.
Interpersonal skills.
Motivating skills.
If all organizations focus on the above 7 aspects, bulk of the problems will disappear over a period of time. It is best done by external specialists. However, it is essential to keep drumming the above through internal trainers regularly.
There are enough specialists around the world on these subjects. Choose the nearest and most suitable ones for your organizations but please avoid theoretical people.
