Ten factors that can make a manager succeed or fail

Ten factors that can make a manager succeed or fail

A manager is supposed to get the work done through people. Eighty percent of managers throughout the world make a mess of managing work, managing people and managing themselves. I am giving below the ten factors that will make or break the manager.
Proper Delegation. Most poor managers do not delegate as they do not have confidence in people. If they do, it is either abdication or relegation of responsibility. A manager has to take the ultimate responsibility for success or failure of his or her team.
Continuous Learning - Life is all about learning from the cradle to the coffin. Successful managers keep updating their knowledge and skills. They keep trying to change their attitudes for the better. Poor managers think they know it all.
Successful managers have a very high degree of interpersonal skills. I can confidently say that this is the biggest shortcoming in most organizations whether big, medium or small.
Successful managers hold themselves accountable for their actions and decisions. Poor managers pass the buck.
Successful managers 'walk the talk'. They lead by examples. Poor managers adopt double standards.
Successful managers learn the businesses they are in, thoroughly. Lack of knowledge of their own business amongst poor managers is very common.
Successful managers communicate well with their superiors, peers and subordinates. Poor managers are poor communicators.
Good managers have vision. They can see the big picture. One need not be a Nostradamus but this is required for success. Poor managers cannot see beyond their noses.
Good and successful managers build cohesive teams. Poor managers break or build dysfunctional teams.
Successful managers are decisive and take decisions, whether right or wrong, and are prepared to face the consequences. Poor managers just sit on their backsides, warm their chairs and do nothing.
