The Simple Top Management Skill and Technique youve got to Have

The simple top management skill and technique you’ve got to have, is to be able to listen to your employees, giving them a voice and implementing some of their ideas. By doing this, you will show them that they matter, that they are important and that you believe in them as people. This is the top management skill and technique you can have. It you have staff who feel important, they will want to give their best for you and your company will benefit.

These ideas don’t have to big, like company takeovers. Those ideas should be left to the Directors and Managers. The ideas that will benefit the staff, are the ones that will directly affect them.

Ask your staff for their ideas on improvements and any other suggestions they may have. You will be surprised at the response you get. Remember though, you must take on board these ideas and implement some of them, to show them that they are being listened too and remember, make sure that you give your staff credit for their ideas.

A good example of this skill and technique, was when one of my staff put to me an idea they’d had regarding improving our goods purchasing system. At the present time, I had to physically sign off the authorisation for purchases, which meant that if I was not in the office for any period of time, the authorisation could not made quickly and therefore the purchase was not quick. This member of staff had the good idea of setting up the authorisation process via email, which meant if I wasn’t in the office I could still sign off the process and therefore not slow down the procedure. This idea was implemented immediately and proved to be a big success. Why hadn’t it been thought of before?

As a Manager one of your tasks is to be available for your staff, making sure they are listened too and supported, implementing good ideas where appropriate. Give your staff credit and you will see a positive difference in your team and their environment and get better productivity and results. Try it.
