Your personal journey to public speaking confidence

Welcome to a new more confident you. A person ready to take that very personal journey to achieving your public speaking goals. This article is very in depth and important. The most in depth because you will be required to ask yourself some very personal questions and give frank, often revealing answers. Don’t worry – you are the only person who will ever see these answers.

It is also the most important because you need to know exactly where you are now, and where you intend to go. While we all started with some fear at the idea of speaking in public the degree and intensity of it varies between each person. This is one of the most common, debilitating fears known to humanity, but also one of the most personal.

We come to it from similar, but very individual, unique experiences. We want to achieve different objectives from sharing the same goal. Put simply; we all want to overcome our fear and deliver a confident public speech. For many this will be goal accomplished! They will have a new found confidence that will boost all areas of their lives.

If this is you then be sure that you can and will accomplish your goal if you persevere to the very end.

You may though want to use your new skills to get promotion at work, or make a career on the speaking circuit. Everyone’s ultimate goal is different so you need to be clear right now what your individual journey will be.

It may well change once you have started your journey as you may see brand new possibilities and change your outlook. Maybe you will realise that a career on the circuit will take you away from home and you are not willing to pay that price.

You may now think that being a professional speaker will answer your critics, but find out that the confidence you gain from your new skills will make their criticism irrelevant. Your composure will mean that you no longer have to prove yourself to anyone else or seek their approval.

This surely is the ultimate freedom for all of us. To be comfortable in who we are and to make decisions based purely on our own wants and needs.

The "getapplausenow” course can help you to achieve these goals.

Re: Public Speaking and Presentations Re: Public Speaking and Presentations - Hi Annette, Welcome to the forum and thanks for sharing your passion. I suppose if you include teaching and lecturing, as well as weddings and a funeral, and some acting, I've built up quite a lot of experience of public speaking. I also teach "English Presentation" to several classes at a women's college here in Hiroshima. That can be quite a challenge due to the language level and for the most part the complete inexperience of public speaking on the part of my students. Great fun to teach, though. I seek to encourage them and to build up their confidence, and also give them feedback about posture, fidgeting (hands in hair seems to be a favourite distraction), sniffing loudly while reading/speaking and so on... Giving that kind of feedback without embarrassing people can be quite a delicate task so I wonder if you have any "easy to understand tips" about helping with confidence and posture etc. Best wishes, David H
Re: Boosting Confidence Re: Boosting Confidence - [quote="Tami Szabo":4m5o9ufl]I’d also love to hear what methods you have for boosting your own confidence.[/quote:4m5o9ufl] Hi Tami, From a male perspective, I'd suggest the following tips to boost one's confidence: 1. Make "fear" your catalyst to take action. For example, if you're afraid of public speaking, then practice and hold a seminar. 2. Remind yourself of your past accomplishments. 3. Remember that other people in the room have 2 arms and 2 legs just like yourself (i.e. you're all equals). 4. Focus on having fun at whatever you're doing. If you focus on trying to be "perfect", you'll fail and lose confidence. 5. Take care of the way you look, whether that's how you dress, what you eat or how often you work out. If you look good, you'll probably feel good too.
Re: A 12 year old Entrepreneur Re: A 12 year old Entrepreneur - Wow. That kid sounds so sure of himself, so at ease speaking in public, not to mention his actual work, that I would even doubt this is real. He´s clearly some kind of genius. But it´s true that age, far from being a limiting factor, helps him in his job. Once you get the right amount of confidence (and this kid seems to have a lot to start with) you just go and do it, no second thought. Hats off to him!! I´m curious to see where he´ll be in 10 years.

At least a lot of people that started doing business as kids are millionaires today.
Re: Social networking rules and etiquette Re: Social networking rules and etiquette - Social media is there to communicate, so use it to do that. The best strategy is to do this in a way which adds value for others. Of course you should be aware that what you say is usually completely public, so don't share what you don't want in the public. I keep use of social media for personal and business separate.
