Annoying Facebook Apps
I once enjoyed Facebook as a place that allowed me to connect with family, friends (old and new) and customers. Lately however, I have become frustrated with all of the app requests and updates that are taking over what was once interesting news from the lives of people I care about.
There is an app for everything from messages from God to virtual farm awards, all of which push updates. I have missed important updates from my friends because app updates pushed them off the page. Now before anyone thinks I am against apps, I'm not. I even play a few. But to allow the app updates to takeover is both annoying and I think misses the point of what made Facebook a good social network in the first place. I wouldn't mind app updates from my friends if they weren't part of the news thread. As far as I can tell, the only way to eliminate this problem is to block the app. But since I would like to see what my friends and family are playing and interested in, blocking the apps seems extreme.
I have a suggestion for the brilliant minds at Facebook. Create a tab for app updates. Then allow users to either sequester the app to the designated tab or block the app if appropriate. That way I can see the app updates from my friends when I choose while keeping the news thread clean and relevant.
A rather simple solution to a very annoying problem that hopefully will gain some momentum among Facebook users.
