Better to save than go new - Here’s an example!

This summer I turned off the circulating electric fan motor on my gas furnace to CONSERVE energy, just like the ads say. But the house smelled stale and the basement musty. Turned on the furnace fan and in a few hours back to normal.

Using the hydro Smart Meter web site, I looked at my hourly/daily/peak/off peak electrical load. The furnace motor uses about half a kilowatt to operate. At the current hydro delivered HST included cost of some 15 cents per kWh, running the fan cost about $650 per year. Plus Toronto Hydro have just asked for another rate increase!

An new technology ECM motor in my not so old furnace would save about 75 % or almost $500. New motors should cost about $700 installed - an ROI of 70%+ or 16 months to get my money back. A better investment than my stocks and bonds.

Do you know a good installer?

By the way if 2 M Ontario homes did this we would save several new nuclear reactors which are planned to cost billions of $.

Re: Service Or Product? Re: Service Or Product? - I think that's true VSL. You would definitely have to have the right product for the times. Perhaps something about saving money......if you know of several ways that you are able to do that. Or a gadget that will save them money. One that is a necessity; like a vacuum or something that would save a lot of energy so they'd see the difference in their bills. Yes, timing is everything!
Re: Is it better to become an entrepreneur at an early age? Re: Is it better to become an entrepreneur at an early age? - I think the best time to become an entrepreneur is not about your age, but your LIFE STAGE. In my opinion, it's ideal to start by your business before you have a spouse/kids/family and mortgage and just after you've worked a few years to save up some capital/work experience (which is easiest to do while still living at home with your parents. No shame in being able to save $1000-2000+ each month).
Re: Google Calendar Re: Google Calendar - [quote="TannyL":33lhkxkp]Hi Mary, On FireFox go to Tools --> Options --> Security There is a box that says: Remember passwords for sites, check it. Next time you enter a PW firefox will ask you if you want to save it. If you go to security again you will see a button "Saved Passwords" click on it and it will open the list, with all the PW hidden, you can choose to hide or show them.[/quote:33lhkxkp] Hi Tanny I always get that pop up on FF asking if I want to save the password. Have always been too nervous to do it. I write my passwords down in a file so that they are not saved on the computer. Although some of them I save in a notebook on my computer. If saved in FF what happens if someone hacks in? MichelleJ
Re: Working with Camtasia Re: Working with Camtasia - I absolutely love Camtasia. It's easy to use, and the features are amazing. You can produce your video in many different formats, including flash. As ideasuniversity said, you can create a web page with the video already built in with it's own player. I usually save it as an .avi, then convert it to .mpg to save on the file size, then upload it to YouTube. Very versatile. I was lucky enough to get it free when they were offering version 3 from their site. I use it now all the time. I like it better than Windows Movie Maker. The screen capture is great for creating tutorial videos. Just get yourself a microphone and start recording. Load video clips and edit and produce a new video. The new version is even more advanced. Overall I couldn't be happier with it. Alan
