Electric Utilities - Helpful?

If you built a rural home in the 70’sthe way to heat was electricity with inexpensive baseboard heaters - the electric utility may have even helped with the cost. If you are paying the electric heat bills in 2011 it’s now a huge OUCH. The electric utility will give trinkets for new Christmas tree lights or take your old beer fridgeaway; but they run away from being helpful with new ways to heat your home. Home heating is 50% of a typical family’s energy bills. Proven heat pump technology can cut the cost of electric heat bytwo thirdsbut electric utilities are not signing you up to save money - that is real energy conservation. Better to give pennies than dollars.

Unneccesary euphamisms Unneccesary euphamisms - For the last year, my computer has been protected by Norton Utilities. For the last several weeks, periodically a dialog box would pop up saying, "Norton Utilities needs to verify your subscription." I always ignored it, because every day when I logged on, Norton did its diagnostic check, and periodically updated itself, so I knew it was running just fine. Today the truth came out, my Norton subscription expired today and I needed to [i:17owzylp]renew [/i:17owzylp]it. So if this dialog box had just come right out and said, "Your subscription will expire in three weeks, renew now," I may have taken action long ago. (Although probably not, as I prefer to wait until the day it actually expires to renew). "Verify" doesn't even mean "renew" in any way shape or form, so it's just a stupid word to use in the context, and if there was a way for me to email them directly and comment on that, I would!
Re: Wordpress Password & Username Recovery Re: Wordpress Password & Username Recovery - I know it's not very secure... but I use the same password for all my online stuff (placing a 1 in front of it in those places where they insist you have a password with letters and numbers), and I've never forgotten a password yet. As for screennames, I keep them written in a small notebook by my computer - along with their password (even though it's always the same one.) But then, I work out of my home and don't need to worry about a co-worker or worker bee coming in and stealing my stuff... What's really annoying is Norton Utilities, which upgrades itself periodically without telling me about any new features. It used to be all my screennames and passwords for various sites were stored onsite, I'd just pull up the page, hit enter, and get in. Now, I guess all my cookies are automatically removed after each session, so I have to typie in screenname and password each time. And there's no way to get them re-saved! Irks me no end...
