The Energy Debate

Ontario has big plans to add electrical generation from new nuclear plants. Governments seem to have forgotten or want to ignore that nuclear is the most expensive way to make kilowatts, over $5000 a kw; takes years to come on line; costs billions; no plant has come in on budget; and government has to be the insurer of last resort. Natural gas plants are relatively simple, cost under a $1000 a kw BUT don’t create mega job numbers. Should Ontario electrical users pay a big rate premium to create nuclear electric jobs?

It is even cheaper and no capital cost to buy kWh’s from Quebec on the new unused grid interconnect but alas, not many Ontario jobs.

Re: How To Post A Forum Topic That Gets Responses Re: How To Post A Forum Topic That Gets Responses - Great suggestions... I like this one especially: "Start a Debate - pick a more controversial topic or one that you think people will have strong opinions about - state the case for two sides of the arguement and let your readers go at it. Eg: Video on a DSLR - Would You Use It? and Full or Partial RSS Feeds?" I also like to mix up the topics even if it moves a little bit outside the focus of the forum. It keeps things interesting.

Thanks for bumping this thread up again, it is a good one. MichelleJ

Re: Will North America make carbon taxes anytime soon? Re: Will North America make carbon taxes anytime soon? - Well I recently started to work at a solar company in Ontario, and business is booming. The Ontario government is doing a great deal since passing the Green Energy Act. This is where the government is buy the energy you produce. 80 cents for kwh. A lot of people in Ontario are putting up solar panels on their roofs, and feeding back the grid green energy.
