Marketing Jobs

Marketing Jobs

It is estimated that nearly one third of Americans hold jobs within the marketing industry. For those looking for marketing jobs, that is good news since it means that the opportunities are tremendous. But, keep in mind that it also means the competition will be fierce since more and more people are also looking to get their feet into that lucrative door. If you’re going to be successful in the industry, it is crucial to have a better understanding of the market situation and where you will fit in.

When you first start in the industry, you will no doubt be placed in an entry-level position. Even those, however, can be some of the hardest to come by. In fact, once you get that first job, you will have a much easier trip on the way up.

Today, more and more people are coming from non-traditional backgrounds to enter this field. One of the most significant trends has been the rise of women in the industry. While women have long been a mainstay in the retail and advertising sectors, it is only more recently that they have begun to enter the areas of sales and marketing. Another trend is the increasing use of marketing by nonprofit organizations and schools.

If you’re looking to work in the field, there are a wide range of different marketing jobs that you could take up. In advertising, you will be typically making less than in the other fields at first, the chances for rising in the ranks are both greater and quicker. Here, you could be anything from a copywriter, to an art director, to an account executive, to a media buyer.

Other opportunities exist in the fields of brand and product management, industrial marketing, international marketing, marketing research, public relations and sales management.

While some of the positions require a Masters of Business Administration degree, such as for instance in brand and product management, others are open to people who come from a wide range of disciplines and professional backgrounds. International marketing is best suited for those who are seeking to do a lot of traveling for their work. You’ll also have a head start if you are able to speak at least two or three languages and have a familiarity with different cultures.

You can find marketing jobs in either the marketing departments of many companies, or else within a marketing firm itself. While both would be uniquely different opportunities, they would also both allow you to gain exposure to the industry and fulfill that desire for creative and satisfying work that so many seek to gain from working in this field.

The industry is a fast-paced one that is not meant for the weak of heart. You could be working for some of the most well-established companies in the industry, or with a small but equally exciting and promising start-up. Either way, you will need to prepare yourself for the long work days that are sure to be ahead.
