Travel Incentives
In a recent poll eighty-eight percent of the people surveyed reported that they would rather win a travel incentive then a cash incentive. One possible reason for this is that once money is spent (normally it is used to pay outstanding bills) it’s gone. A trip is something that the whole family can enjoy. The stories of a memorable trip are stories that get told years later at family gatherings.
There are a variety of ways a company can use a travel incentive. Companies can offer travel incentives to customers to reward customer loyalty, to help encourage changes in customer behavior, and to attract new customers. A company can use a travel incentive if they are launching a new product. They enter the name of each person who takes a chance on the new product into a drawing for an exotic fantasy vacation. Travel incentives have been used to reward customers for an extravagant purchase.
A company will often offer a raffle or sweepstake with a vacation as the prize to increase traffic. If a company requires that a raffle ticket or flyer be filled out in order to be entered in the sweepstakes they will be able to use the opportunity to gather information about loyal and potential customers.
A travel incentive might be used to reward customer loyalty. Many companies use travel incentives to encourage productivity in their employees, as hiring bonuses, sales incentives, and retirement gifts. Several companies offer travel incentives to their service department in an effort to improve customer relations.
The initial cost of a travel incentive may cause some hesitation most companies report a return on the investment of over eighteen percent. One company invested a half a million dollars on one travel incentive to Maui that they then offered as a travel incentive to their customers. They saw an immediate increase of twenty percent in their gross sales. In addition to the increase of gross sales they reported an increase in first time customers.
Companies that have used travel incentives to motivate their employees often report an increase in productivity of over twenty-five percent.

My friend Dave sent me a hysterical Onion article titled Failure Now An Option. I hate the phrase "failure is not an option" - of course it is. Some choice quotes:

I normally disregard these "Are you better off now than you were X years/months/minutes/seconds ago"? surveys. They are usually selective, small sample, tough to generalize, etc.
