21 days to a life full of gratitude

“As human beings we don’t lack for things. We lack an appreciation of things. For instance, how often do we notice, much less appreciate, the natural beauty that is there to be seen in our life – a bird singing high atop a telephone pole, a flower growing through the crack in a concrete sidewalk, or the leaves of a tree glistening in the sunlight as we sit in the gridlock of an overcrowded freeway.

“In every moment of every day the Good, True and Beautiful is Present, but we are looking elsewhere – we are looking for something we don’t have rather than appreciating What Is. Rather than taking Life in, we take It for granted and save gratitude for those occasions when we finally get something we wanted.” Stephanie Sorensen; The Sacred Continuum.

It has been said that gratitude is the most direct route to a conscious connection with God, Higher Power, Universe, That Which Is. Gratitude is the fastest way out of judgment. Gratitude is the simplest way to go from feeling insignificant to a sense of intense well being and purpose.

The process of having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude is actually quite simple. It is simply a matter of choosing to be grateful for what is rather than resentful for what is not.

In all we do we can choose to say, “Thank you. I appreciate this.” In all we do. Not just those moments that outwardly appear to be good. There is so much good around us if we choose to only look and acknowledge.

Recently, a good friend of mine shared with me what her spiritual mentor invited her to do for a period of 21 days. The recommendation was made because my friend was not fully appreciating that which she is surrounded with on a daily basis.

As my friend explained the process, she said each morning and each evening write down seven things to be grateful for. Each item listed must be an original statement rather than repeating something over and over. Additionally, the expression of gratitude must be specific.

The more specific we can make our list the more gratitude we are likely to feel beyond the words we write.

Knowing how powerful the expression of gratitude can be, I decided to incorporate this practice into my daily routine for the next 21 days. On the morning of day one my list consisted of the following:

1. I am grateful to have a roof over my head.
2. I am grateful for the ability to hear the wind chimes outside my front door.
3. I am grateful to know I have heat in my home.
4. I am grateful to feel my feet.
5. I am grateful for the money that allows me to live a very comfortable life.
6. I am grateful for healthy eating habits.
7. I am grateful for my health.

Although some of what I expressed is general, with each passing day it is bound to get more and more specific. Once we get through the generalization of life, we move into a space of specifics. It is in the specifics and in the little things that we can’t help but have a shift in perception. It is in the shift of perception miracles abound.

I am looking forward to the process of 21 days of taking my expression of gratitude to a new level. I invite you to consider taking the next 21 day period to write down morning and evening that which you have to be grateful for. Remember, to gain the greatest benefit from this process you must repeat nothing. All must be unique.

As I write this I am reminded of the gratitude I feel for the ability to share my thoughts through the medium of the Internet; something that was not even in existence at one point in my life or yours.

I am grateful that you are reading what I wrote and grateful that perhaps through my words you have noticed how powerful the practice of acknowledging that which you have to be grateful for evokes even more thoughts and feelings of gratitude.
Gratitude is contagious. When we are in the space of gratitude it does impact our surroundings. It impacts others regardless of whether they are near or far. Gratitude will actually increase the vibration level in all we do.

The more conscious we are of this fact the more we can consciously express that which we are grateful for.

I am grateful for…(you fill in the blank).

Re: what brings tears to Your eyes ???? Re: what brings tears to Your eyes ???? - Hi Barry Being able to make a difference in a life, whether it is a human life or an animals life I think gives one a wonderful feeling of gratitude. Gratitude of being in a position to help and that what you do is actually going to make a difference is definitely enough to bring tears to your eyes. MichelleJ
Re: Just a simple comparison & contrast of our truths in crisis. Re: Just a simple comparison & contrast of our truths in crisis. - Hi, that's a great point. I used to think my life wasn't that exciting or good and these days billionaires are killing themselves because of the market crash thinking a million is not enough! Before you start thinking about your life, look around you. Think how many people would love to have the life your living. A lot of us here may not be millionaires or billionaires, but at least we are fortunate enough to live under a roof and feed ourselves each day, and being able to afford internet. If you thought it was bad here with the economy, think of other 3rd world countries. Enjoy the life your giving, because in the next life you might not be so lucky!
I do make more and now he's lazier I do make more and now he's lazier - I do make more than my husband as he's only working part time and not showing signs of going full time anytime soon. We do struggle with bills sometimes and it seems he always has an excuse why he is not pushing to seek full time employment (or two part time jobs). Meanwhile, I am running my own business and working a full time job to boot (10- 14 hour days, 6 days a week)....He's only working 5 hours a day, 5 days a week! You would think he could make up the difference by doing the housework, errands and tending to our children (ages 11 & 13) but he does absolutely nothing and then complains that the kids don't help out ! Geez, they are in school longer than he's at work each day! Unfortunately, I find myself doing the heavy housework and errands on Sundays and incorporating my kids into helping out during the week after school (if they even bother) because he doesn't push them or supervise... hubby is too busy sitting in our bedroom watching TV instead! I've conveyed how i feel several times and he says he's sorry and he understands and will help out more, but then he doesn't. Or he runs the dishwasher once a week and expects a pat on the back! I come home from my full time job, before working at my business and have to cook dinner and clean up after wards while helping the kids with homework. The house is a wreck most days and when i ask why nothings been done, he complains about how the kids dont do anything! Isn't that a kick in the pants! Thank goodness this is my only problem with him or we'd be divorced by now (though I can't say I haven't contemplated it while I was angry with him)! I think there is hope in turning this around. What do you all think I could do to turn this around?
Re: Alexa Ranking Goals Re: Alexa Ranking Goals - [quote:82tvlyxw]Must be something about marketers (interest and commitment) that so many of us seem to be night owls.[/quote:82tvlyxw] Must be! I am rarely in bed before 1:30am but I usually only work until about 11:30 then I watch a movie for a couple hours. My work days are really sporadic. I am a "full-time" internet marketer but many days I don't work at all, some days I work just a few hours, and some days I work all day and into the night. Just depends on my mood and what I have going on.
Re: What is your biggest challenge? Today? Re: What is your biggest challenge? Today? - Hello members, My biggest challenge in the coming year and beyond is without doubt better time management. Like millions of other Internet Marketers I want to work from home full time but its catch 22 isn’t it? To work full time you have to put in almost full time effort but we haven’t got the time. We come home from work and do as many IM hours as we can fit in during evenings and weekends whilst still carrying out our family obligations. If and when I do work from home full time I will be able to structure my days better to get maximum effect from the hours that I work. At the moment I seem to be fire fighting every night trying to catch up. the dream is still alive, LOL Mal.
