Don't put me on your mailing list!

Answer me this... why is it when someone opts-in for a report, ezine, eBook, teleseminar or whatever it is that is offered from a website, blog or landing page there are some subscribers that think it is okay to begin sending their information to the person they requested the information from?

It is likely that many of us who provide lots of opportunities for people to opt in for something get unwanted and "not asked for" information sent to us or worse yet, someone subscribes us to their list without our permission.

You know what? It is not okay to do this. It is spam and you are likely losing more readers than you will get. And you might even be breaking a law or two.

Do not think that just because you subscribe to someone's information they will be interested in yours? Not necessarily so.

Why not set your systems up to attract readers who are genuinely interested in what you have to offer?

To succeed in any type of business it is essential to be very clear on who does and does not want your products and services.

So the next time you think it is okay to put someone on your mailing list without their permission, don't. It's not okay.

Why people don't vote/post Why people don't vote/post - [quote:ilc3axhr]I'm curious why people don't vote. Anyone know the answer?? I'm really not trying to be difficult, but I am curious. [/quote:ilc3axhr] It seems they don't vote and they don't post. I used to have a few mailing lists - actors fan clubs - on one list I had over 300 members, on another list I had about 100... and nobody posted. Ever. I had a rare cassette tape of a certain actor - that no one could have ever heard but any fan would have loved to have heard (I thought) and I offered copies of it as a premium for anyone who would make 5 posts on the list. Just 5! And I didn't get post one. When it comes to that, you might think it's because people don't want their names skimmed off for a mailing list, but when it comes to voting in a poll...where it takes a single mouse button click.... I don't understand it either!
Re: How do you save your business from construction? Re: How do you save your business from construction? - The unfortunate thing is that most small business restaurants don't have a customer mailing list to inform them about specials/discounts or alternative entrances during construction. On the other hand, a large restaurant chain like Swiss Chalet is always providing their customers with incentives like a free slice of pie or side orders if you join their online mailing list. Aren't bricks and mortar small businesses supposed to buy some sort of insurance for the loss of business due to outside construction?
Re: What is Email marketing? Re: What is Email marketing? - Do a list building activity using opt-in. Or you can buy database of potential customers from mailing list providers and do an email blast. or you can ask them to do an email campaign. But, i would recommend to put an opt-in code and let the people subscribe for it. That is better. What is others' opinion? Thanks Robert
Sending a Free Card Sending a Free Card - I'm curious what you're doing with the free card program. Once I enter my info, I could be added to a mailing list etc and I just like to check things out and to understand how I can help. Thanks for the additional information. Shri
Re: When to give away your product or service for free Re: When to give away your product or service for free - Usually you would have freebies as part of a marketing campaign. Sop a giveaway to create buzz, or a giveaway in return for a certain action from the user (e.g mailing list signup)
