Online book campaigns – friend or foe?

Over the last few years countless number of authors have utilized the power of the Internet to market and sell their books. The question that begs to be answered is, "Are online book launches a viable way to market your book?" Absolutely! However, you will find criticism from some who believe this is not a valid way of selling books while others feel this is an incredibly effective way to promote, sell and profit from your book.

With my book launch of The Law of Achievement we sold over $22,000 in a 24 hour period. To say that this is not a viable way to market and sell books is beyond my scope of comprehension.

Every author needs to determine for themselves if this is a good fit.

The fact is, most books never make any money and countless authors do not take responsibility for marketing their books. They write the book and hope it will somehow sell itself. Or they assume the publisher will do all the marketing. Although some publishers will help with marketing, others do not.

Regardless of who publishes your book, the more you know about marketing, online strategies, becoming visible and profitable, the better off you will be.

Setting a success timeline

Giving yourself enough time to handle all the details of the campaign is essential to your success. It is better to take as much time as you need to do things right rather than rushing through and experiencing less than stellar results.

Re: Books for Business Owners Re: Books for Business Owners - Hi DougSchadle, Thanks for sharing your favorite business book with us! A good book I'm reading now is "Maximum Achievement: Strategies and Skills That Will Unlock Your Hidden Powers to Succeed" by Brian Tracy as it was a birthday gift from a friend. Tracy's book is helpful in identifying what's important in your life and then setting an action plan to achieve it.
Book Advances Book Advances - Hello I am also working on a book does anyone know anything about the publishing industry? A friend was telling me that often authors once a publisher is interested in working with them they can receive a book advance, is this true?
Virtual Book Tours Virtual Book Tours - Are the members of the forum familiar with how a virtual book tour works? I've been considering doing a tour or two and I was talking to a friend about handling some promotion for her and handling tours in the future. So, are there any authors here who have tried a virtual book tour? Or, are there any blog owners that would consider hostiing an author who is on tour? Shri
Re: Help with adwords Re: Help with adwords - We strayed a bit from our Adwords when the campaigns began to struggle a bit this year - we replaced our efforts into pure content creation (blogging) and have been seeing much better results. Find a knowledgeable web person - have them setup a blogging tool on your own website (so use your own instance of something like WordPress rather than having a blog on another application like Blogger.com etc.). Start creating your own content - you know your own business the best, and you are likely in the best position to generate serious amounts of content about your business. In the end you will still have this content, and it will be on your own site. Adword campaigns expire, yet the content you create will be yours forever! Good Luck!
Re: Twitter vs Facebook Re: Twitter vs Facebook - I use Facebook pages for Business and rarely ever use Twitter. I hace lost count of the no. of Hotels that I have visited, regarding their marketing campaigns, that may have 5k Facebook Fans and only 100 followers on Twitter. It is a lot more difficult to engage with people on Twitter and thus harder to gain traction. If you are a business like Nike, then Twitter is great, but if you are an SME, then focus on Facebook or LinkedIn (if you are providing a professional service.) You can always have your Facebook feed directly in to Twitter, so you can have a presence on both, but do the work on one. Also check out ping.fm for managing campaigns - it is a free tool, and a great time saver.
