The Fastest Way To Create Buzz For Your Small Business

Exactly four years ago, a marketing consultant said to me 'Paul, if you give away onen of these seminars, your business will explode". I was frozen from fear thinking how can I give a three thousand dollar course away to my paying customers? How will I make money? I'll go broke giving away my intellectual property.

I can't even remember the man's name, but he said, "You can pay 30k to buy an ad in the paper, or you can give a free seminar, but I can gaurantee you a free seminar will work faster, better and get you the results you desire." I wanted to kick him into reality. How can I have some clients pay me 3k, and give away the same information to others for free?

Then he said "you don't have to give all your best secrets away, just some valuable nuggets that builds up their thirst for more." Okay, I thought, that was more pallatable. That man reinvented my business, and this valuable lessons showed me how to grow almost 400% per year.

His philosophy was, there are people who are givers and there are people who are takers. We are attracted to people and to companies who are givers, so it is a good idea to build this into the way you market. Almost all of us give away small amounts during the steps that lead up to the sale. But he was suggesting that you give away things as part of your strategy.

If you're a business person, you know that you have to be a good giver, but be an excellent reciever. If you don't have the ability to recieve, you won't have anything to give!So a healthy balance is key. This is when we introduced a 3-Hour Intensive seminar where we give high value information away. This strategy became a powerful word-of-mouth marketing where we tracked 52% of our sales through referrals.

It is easier to get to hard-to reach prospects this way, people are more likely to refer you if they know that you will give something away to the person they are referring you to, and people feel the need for reciprocity when you give them something. This eventually makes them easier to sell to. So, consider what you might be able to give away for free. Depending on the business you are in, you could give free initial consultations, free training, free samples, demonstrations, seminars and executive briefings.

What under-utilized assets do you have that could be used to build better relationships, rather than lying around being ignored and unused? What high value product or service can create a word-of-mouth referral for you? Be generous, you will find a strong correlation between what you give and what you get.
