Are you a no show?
Toronto Maple Leafs General Manager, Brian Burke, was on The Fan radio show, commenting on the performance (or lack thereof) of the Leafs in a recent hockey game against the Carolina Hurricanes. Burke said he barely recognized his team on the ice. At one point, he even referred to the Leafs as a "no show." That phrase resonated with me, because no shows are a staple of the sports world. All teams have players who under-perform.
As a matter of fact, no shows appear in all walks of life, from arts and academia to business and politics. No shows are people who are content to mail it in, day after day, who perform their jobs with apathy and indifference. They expend as little effort as possible and are okay with lackluster performances.
To achieve success in a chosen profession, you have to show up every day, regardless of how you feel, and put it an honest effort. You have to care enough about yourself to do your best, even if you don't see immediate results.
Are you making the most of the opportunities that are presented to you every day? Or are you wasting your (and everybody else's) time and mailing it in?
It's your decision. You can excel or you can be a no show.
