6 Killer Newsletter Ideas For When You’re Really Stuck!
You've been staring at a blank page for two hours.
Panic has descended; there aren't ANY newsletter ideas in sight.
Every newsletter writer has faced a similar dilemma. Here are six ways to crush writer's block and open the floodgates to tons of fresh newsletter ideas.
1. Check Google News
You have to love the internet. There is always something going on the world that you can tie back in to your business. Check Twitter for ideas related to your biz or industry. See what tweets are flying around in a certain subject. All this can serve as a creative catalyst for you.
2. Crowbar Your Subject Into Something Else
Internet marketer Dean Hunt created a series called Crowbar Content. The idea is to use discussions that are totally unrelated to your subject and then you 'crowbar' them into your newsletter content. You want to use the current buzz as your hook - but message will be yours.
For example, when the Tiger Woods scandal broke, investors used headlines like, 'How Tiger Can Save You From Losing Money.' The 'swift shift' was: Avoid cheating on your portfolio by straying from your investing plan.
Get it? Now you try!
3. Answer Your Reader's Questions
You can even raise questions they haven't asked yet, but you know that they should probably be asking! This is actually a great feature to include in every company newsletter and makes for great newsletter ideas for articles.
4. Use a Guest Writer
This is common (and very effective) approach to creating content for your newsletter. I have seen articles used by Brian Tracy, Dan Kennedy, Perry Marshall and others in many newsletters. Of course, you have to be certain permission is granted. Usually, all you have to do is include their fully intact bio and contact information at the end. They love it because it's free, viral marketing for them. And you get a free article to use.
5. Recycle Your Best Stuff
If your newsletter has been around a while, consider reprinting some of your favorite articles. I've done this on a few occasions. Often, all you need to do is change the headline a bit and perhaps update the content. New subscribers probably haven't seen it. And your longtime readers would likely not recall the article in its new form. A word of caution - just don't make a habit of it.
6. Interview an Expert
In your business, you've probably met other business people in fields similar to yours. Why not interview them for your next newsletter article? Getting volunteers is usually not a problem. People love talking about themselves and their businesses! This is especially true if it means free advertising for them. Just be sure to include their bio and website link at the end.
As you realize, writing is the easy part. It's coming up with a newsletter idea that can be challenging. Once the idea has crystallized, writing the article usually flows very easily.
Newsletter ideas are all around us. It may take a little digging, but using these suggestions will act as an newsletter idea generator. So just look around and take what you need from the world around you. Your next company newsletter will be a killer success and go out on time.
