The iPad: Meet the newest member of the Apple gang
|
| Guest post by: Rob Lawson |
Article Overview: It comes as no surprise that the latest gadget to hit the shelves fresh from the Apple factory has everyone over-excited. The iPad has, at its simplest, been called a sort of cross-breed between the iPhone and a normal laptop, and at its best been labelled a ‘game changer', taking technology into the 21st century. Whether you're a die-hard fan of Apple's technology or whether you roll your eyes at the sound of anything starting with that familiar ‘I-', no one can deny that the iPad has been released with quite a bang - and there are certainly some good reasons why.

The iPad: Meet the newest member of the Apple gang
It comes as no surprise that the latest gadget to hit the shelves fresh from the Apple factory has everyone over-excited.
What's the go?
The iPad is basically a big iPod touch, and includes a music and movie player, games, an e-Book reader, and a photo display device. It also lets you use all of your existing ‘apps' on it. So if it's a giant iPod, you may be thinking, then why is it better? Well, firstly the size itself is deemed a benefit. With a nearly-10 inch screen, everything can be seen more clearly and in larger form. Applications, movies, and books probably benefit most from the bigger screen. You can comfortably sit and watch a TV show on a long trip without squinting through tired eyes to see it. Secondly, the keypad, too, is obviously larger and thus much easier to use for many. And thirdly, the battery life of the iPad boasts 10 hours, meaning you won't get stuck anywhere with an onset of boredom setting in and no battery.
The portable book shelf
The iPad is the size of a book when opened in your hands, and there's a reason for it. One of the most talked-about features of the iPad is the eBook reader. Apple has just created its very own eBook store (called the iBookstore), with five major publishers already set to offer their books up to users. Unlike other eBook readers on the market, the iPad has a LCD screen, meaning better viewing, better graphics and an instant page-turner speed. The idea is to get as close a readability to an actual book as possible, but with easier access and the obvious convenience. Now you can carry your book shelf around in your bag.
The professional's new suitcase
So can it replace a suitcase? Many want to know how exactly it can help business. The idea is that you will now need to leave behind a big suitcase as you head off to work, as all you will need is the lightweight, transportable iPad that doesn't take up much more room than a thin paperback. You can access news, read magazines and business books, and have all of your reports and other documents safely tucked into your iPad's memory. Anything that helps you organise better cannot hurt your business. The long battery life comes into play again too, with no need to recharge on those long winded business trips. Popular thought is that it will become a vital business tool in the very near future.
The latest toy from Apple can be of benefit to business, if you choose to make it so. With the business world demanding access to things in the here and now, the iPad allows you to take everything along with you, for work and for play.
