Searching for Wholeness and Balance As An Entrepreneur
Becoming a entrepreneur is, for many, a search for wholeness. Integrating a good career into a good life is a worthwhile and attainable goal. But it can also be a difficult challenge. There will inevitably be conflicts, and you should expect to devote energy and creativity to resolving, or at least managing, them.
It~{!/~}s a paradox that finding integrity often means creating boundaries. If you have enough space to work with, providing a physical separation for your business is the easiest way to start. Not everyone has this luxury, though, and some don~{!/~}t feel they need it. Nevertheless, just about everyone should give some real thought to how they allocate their time, and make sure that the business doesn~{!/~}t crowd out everything else.
The proper balance between work life and personal life is something that changes over time. It can change, for example, with the ages of your children, or with the evolution of your own goals and interests. When you first start your business, it will demand all your time, and most of the effort you put into it will be justifiable. But even at that crucial moment, you should still make sure that you make room for other things. Otherwise you may form self-destructive habits that are hard to break.
Each of us responds to the challenges of creating an integrated life individually. The accommodations we make reflect the sort of people we want to be. What~{!/~}s important to remember, though, is that balance does not just magically appear. We all have to work at it.
