Getting The Most From Your Promotional Items

You have a box of great promo items ready to take to a trade show. You bought them because you know they're the most effective possible advertising for your company. Now how can you get the best "bang for your buck" from these items? Follow these simple rules:

1. Keep it neat. Display the promotional items nicely. Remember, potential customers will not automatically know how much you spent for the items, so you have the opportunity to increase their perceived value. If you dump a box of pens onto your table, they will look like they have little value. But if you line them up neatly in rows, they will seem more valuable to people passing by.

2. Keep in touch. Placing a promotional item in a potential customer's hand is the single best way to increase that item's perceived value. Something lying on a table is just an object, but when you place it in a potential customer's hand, you have made personal contact. Add a smile or a handshake, and you may have made a business contact.

3. Keep your business cards nearby. Some potential customers will appreciate the little flashlight imprinted with your company's contact information, but they'll also want a business card they can put in their file. Keep a neat stack of your cards near your promotional items, and both will appear to have more value.

That's all there is to it -- display nicely, add the personal touch, and provide a card version of your contact information. Then you'll get the most from your new promotional items.

Where's the Entrance? Where's the Entrance? - that's true I've been seeing a lot of construction going on to the City of Toronto's sidewalks and even Movie shoots sometimes block of access to stores for a week sometimes.. Guerrilla techniques should be at play here. 1. Get a Can of Paint and some Footstep Stencils and paint footsteps all the way from the accessible street right to your temporary entrance. (may be illegal but the store owner could plead innocent and say he has no idea who did that - maybe a "fan" of the restaurant) 2. I remember when there was the SARS outbreak in Toronto a lot of the Chinese restaurants were not doing so well except for Lee's Garden. I noticed they created a special Menu with prepackaged Menu Items for $20. 3. Create some buzz like with a Unique expereince - "Someone stole all my Plates! Now serving food on Banana Leaves - Guess What! The Food tastes better than ever! Blah Blah...

Simple Idea - Great Advice. Simple Idea - Great Advice. - Recently I was presented with the opportunity to bring an entrepreneur "into his own." Not only did I jump at the chance to do so, but I thought, wow, if only I had had that same kind of person offering to help me get started . . . all the headaches I would have saved!!! Anyways, I 'fell' into my business (promotional product sales) when I was the 'team-mom' for my son's wrestling team (some 15 years ago). Simply, almost overnight, every team and booster club in the high-school was ordering products from me (waterbottles, eye-black, seat cusions, t-shirts, pom-poms, hats, etc.) - it was a need that I simply organized a way to fill (every 4 years kids moved on and the role of booster club parent turned over to a new set of parents - I just offerred to do ordering for the teams each year and that is how things started! I look around and think, wow, if only someone had just presented me with that idea at some point in time - I had to 'create' my systems of sales and everything else that went into starting up a real business. So I really think anyone starting a business (or even just thinking about starting a business) needs to latch onto a mentor. Don't be afraid to ask! Every entrepreneur had to start out somewhere, and there is plenty of (free) help out there if your aren't sure where to turn or ask questions. So in terms of Promotional Product advertising - I am here to mentor anyone thinking about getting into the biz. I would encourage you to take a 'student' entrepreneur under your wing in your line of business. Who knows, you might even enjoy doing so too!
