Meeting with People
Meeting with people
An important part of your Marketing and Branding Strategy is to meet with people, usually one-on-one. The idea is to determine if you may be able to work together. These people usually have a similar client target market, which means you work with the same types of clients they work with. I frequently get questions about what that meeting should consist of. Do we talk about only business? How much of my personal life do I share?
I have had about 5 meetings this past week alone, all were very different, but had the same agenda. I try to limit the meeting to an hour, but you should allow some extra time just in case things are going really well. You don’t want to have to stop some momentum to get to another meeting. I also suggest that if you having multiple meetings, to try to arrange them at the same location. It saves on gas, but also allows you to introduce people to each other.
Here are some suggested agenda topics you can use with these meetings.
Establish rapport- Learn a little about the other person; where they live, where they work, other hobbies or interests outside of business. This will sometime happen at the end if you are meeting for the first time.
Take turns talking about your business- I like to learn about the other person first. It usually helps to break the ice. I can also focus what I say about my business around their target market or product or service offerings.
Figure out how you might be able to work together- What is the buying cycle for each of your businesses? Would a client need to work with them first, then you? How do you introduce each other? Maybe help write a “Script” for each other.
What are the next steps? What needs to happen next? Do you need to do some research? Or is there a logical next step? Make sure that before you leave each other, this is accomplished.
I know this has been brief, so I will talk in more detail in the coming weeks
