Meeting with people- What are the next steps?

About a month ago, I started talking about an important part of your Marketing and Branding Strategy, which is to meet with people, usually one-on-one. The idea is to determine if you may be able to work together. Today, I will talk about the Next Steps. This is usually the part that gets missed and is most important! This is the reason you are getting together in the first place. What needs to happen next? Do you need to do some research? Or is there a logical next step? Make sure that before you leave each other, this is accomplished.

One reason referral relationships do not work is that even if you know about their business, you do NOT know how to introduce them to a potential referral. Spend some time on this and work together. It does not need to be long and involved.

Figure out what situation a person (or company) is in, so that can help you think of them.

When you hear of that situation, ask them "And who is helping you with that?" This is a great question that has only 3 possible answers:

1) "Oh I have someone that I am working with to resolved this."

If you hear this, at least you tried. You can suggest that if they are not happy with that person, you know someone.

2) "Help? I have not thought about getting someone to help me."

3) "Nobody. Why, do you know someone?"

If you get either of the above 2, you have the opportunity to introduce your referral source. You now have a "script" to use so there is no confusion.

Remember, your referral source is the expert. Get them in front of each other as soon as possible!

Re: Does it help to join business groups? Re: Does it help to join business groups? - I think so, yes, if you can join the right group, then it can be beneficial. Meeting other entrepreneurs in various fields and industries, some are long-time entrepreneurs, others have just started, each one can learn something from the other. Business groups are great platform to get support too, especially if you want to raise a particular question. Forums like these make it easier to get help and at the same time, contribute your own insights for others. It's a give and take thing:)
Greetings From Greg Plant Greetings From Greg Plant - I'm an International Business Owner born in London, then moved to Somerset as a child where I still live. I'm in a loving relationship with my wife to be Jo Litster. I live life to the absolute maximum, taking part in all sorts of sports and activities, as I think it’s important to stay fit and well in all areas of life. We live in a fast changing world, and I’m the type of person who likes to control my attitude towards life’s changes, that enable me to master change, rather than allowing change to master me. Meeting and networking with like minded people is a passion of mine, and work with business owners who incorporate the internet for an income. I look forward to growing a great friendship and exchanging ideas! Feel free to contact me any time so we can keep up-dated with each others’ developments! Have a great day! Greg
Re: 4 Ways to Go From Employee to Entrepreneur Re: 4 Ways to Go From Employee to Entrepreneur - The situation that Wezi describes is more the norm than the exception. I have spoken to many "entrepreneurs-to-be" that have a desire to work for themselves but can't overcome the fear of making that critical leap. The truth of the matter is, if fear is preventing you from moving forward with your own business you need to overcome that fear first. To do this, try this exercise: 1. Write down as many detailed reasons why you are DISSATISFIED with remaining in your job until you retire. E.g., it won't let you achieve the lifestyle you desire; you are sick of commuting an hour each day; etc. 2. Write down in as much detail as possible your VISION of what your life will be like once you have your own business and you are fully engaged in it. Enjoy this step. 3. Create a list of the action steps you need to actually complete to get things rolling. What do you need to do first? Second? Third? Create a step by step plan. These three steps all work together to overcome any resistance you may feel towards making a major change in your career. If after these exercises, you are still too afraid, look at what you have written down. Chances are one of the three forces for change (dissatisfaction, vision, or first steps) are not yet strong enough to overcome your fear. Perhaps, once you really thought about it, things aren't really that bad in your current career, etc.... Hope this helps.
Webhosts Webhosts - Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I have worked with my new Ipower "Vdeck" as they call it, and it really stinks on ice. They've removed functionality and added extra steps and it's just silly. I can't believe that people haven't complained about it...but it's not doing any good. So once I get all my ducks in a row I'll be moving toot sweet! Or even tout suite!
