Are You a Marketing Flirt?

Are You a Marketing Flirt?

Flirt is defined as "behaving alluringly".  This actually is great if your marketing is alluring and attracts people. 

But I'm thinking more of the commonplace meaning – when someone flirts with you, they're usually trying to entice you with unspoken (or spoken) promises, but don't actually follow through and deliver on their promises.

So, I'll ask you again:  Are you a marketing flirt?

We've all run up against people – especially on the somewhat anonymous internet – that promise us the sun and moon but then when you get their ebook or course, or get in their coaching circle, you find that they have totally under-delivered.

You remember how you felt:  ripped off, angry, stupid, taken advantage of, hopes dashed, cheated, disappointed, frustrated.  Not emotions that we want people to experience when doing business with us.

Take a look at some of the ways that you could be acting like a marketing flirt:

  • you tell someone that they will get a call back in 24 hours BUT you (or someone on your team) don't actually get around to talking with them until 3 days later
  • you promise people that when they sign up for your ezine that you'll send it out every Tuesday BUT they don't receive their first issue until 3 weeks later and then are still waiting a month later for the second one
  • you respond to an email via your website contact form letting them know you'll send them some information/answer their question/refer them to someone BUT you never get back to them
  • your sales page states that you'll send them 3 bonuses immediately when they sign up BUT in reality, they don't get them until a week later
  • you state that your membership program will have a members' only forum where they can interact and learn from each other BUT the forum doesn't actually work until 3 months into the program
  • you tell people that your ezine will provide great, informative information BUT you actually talk 75% of time about your products and services and what's happening with you.
  • you ask people to fill out an online survey about what their main problems are BUT you never share with them the results or create products that address the issues they brought up
  • you gather people's business cards at a networking event promising them you'll send them your free special report BUT they never hear back from you again
  • your sales page states that you'll answer coaching circle members' questions if they email you BUT you only get around to answering some of them some of the time and usually too late to do them much good
  • your website states that you're available to do guest teleseminars BUT whenever anyone asks you, you're too busy or you're waiting for the "perfect" opportunity

Many of the reasons that people are marketing flirts are not through spite or indifference, but usually because they're too busy and overwhelmed to stay on top of things.  Your prospects and customers don't really care about that though, do they?  They want to know that they can trust you to follow through on what you've promised.

So take a look at what you are telling people you'll do and make sure that you have the processes and procedures (like a marketing plan calendar!) in place so that instead of being a marketing flirt, you'll become a committed and trusted partner to people.

Then watch your success and results soar!
