How To Increase Your Opt-In Rate By 33%

We hear it over and over again. The power is in the list. And while that is partially true, the real key to growing your business is to have a large list of highly targeted prospects. Thus you want to make sure that your website and webpages are set up to turn as large a percentage of your visitors into subscribers. So how do we get more qualified visitors to opt-in?

The "blinding grasp of the obvious" answer is to offer them something of value in exchange for their contact information. This might be a free report, a video or an interactive survey. With all the choices that are available it's always amazing to me that when I critique websites that less than 25% of them have any sort of compelling offer. this is particularly true with Business To Business websites. I've asked a number of business owners why they don't offer free information, and about half of them say that they tried doing so but that it didn't work. Well here's how to change that.

Why visitors don't request your free offer can depend upon a wide range of variables, but here's one that you can fix very easily. By taking this simple step you'll probably boost conversion by up to 33%. Over time that represents a lot of new people in your opt-in list.

Typically people put the box to request the free offer in either the top of the page or down at the very bottom. I've found that conversion will increase dramatically if you have your request button in two different places. The first is the upper right hand corner. The reason why this is so powerful is that most people are right-hand dominant. As a result their eye automatically is drawn to the upper right hand corner of the page.

However instead of just a plain old box or boring rectangular form, why not use a starburst or some other eye-catching form? Have it appear in a contrasting color to the dominant color that appears on your page. That's tip number one.

The second tip is to communicate the offer in the actual copy of your webpage. Ideally you want to weave the offer right into the text on the page. For example I'll often use a transition sentience such as, "You can learn precisely how I use a simple strategy to overcome reluctance and take action by taking these simple steps." That then leads to a box that appears right in the middle of the page with a compelling headline that promotes the free report.

If you have your offer appear twice, once in the upper right hand corner and then in the text itself, you'll notice that the percentage of your high quality visitors that turn into subscribers begins to immediately rocket upwards.

Time to get rich in real estate? Time to get rich in real estate? - Another thing I'd do if I had a million bucks...or more... would be to start buying up distressed real estate. Sounds ghoulish, I know, but prices are down so much now that anyone who can afford to buy houses and hold onto them until the market "corrects" itself, could make a bundle in a few years. I've been reading a great deal about the current mortgage crisis, and I've got to say that whatever genius came up with the Adjustable Rate Mortgage - and worse, actually persuaded people to buy using it - deserves to be boiled in his own oil and buried with a spring of holly through his heart! What a ridiculous thing - just asking for trouble!

I would never want an adjustable mortgage - even before these latest problems, the financial system is unpredictable. Things can change A LOT in 30 years - look what happened in 4 or 5 years. Chris
