Should You Use Long Or Short Email Copy In Your Sales Communications?

This is a question that has been the subject of much debate. Before answering it, let me ask you one thing. How would you feel if you received an email that was 5 pages long? Would you take the time to read it? If you are like any normal person you would probably just delete the email without reading even half of it. So how long should your email messages be?

If you are sending emails in the hope of enticing people to purchase your products or services, you need to keep them brief. You email should be designed to get your reader to take action. An example of this might be to get your readers to click on a link to your blog. You might email your subscribers to tell them about some specific information that you have just posted on your blog. The blog post can be as long as you like, the main purpose of the email is to get people to go to your blog and nothing more.

If you are sending an email to your subscribers that is going to direct them to a sales page if they click on the link then you need to keep the email as short as possible. It is up to the sales page to close the sale. The sole purpose of your email is just to get your subscribers to that sales page.

Another thing about long email copy that you might not be aware of is that it can often get caught in spam filters. If you over use a word in your email spam filters will assume you are sending a spam message too and therefore your email won’t reach your readers.

When writing email for your subscribers, you do need to create some dialogue and winning email sales copy will always ask for feedback and feature a call for action. You should also personalize your emails to make them more reader friendly.

In order for short emails to really work, you need to build up a relationship with your subscribers. Your emails should be personal and relevant and your subscribers should see you as a friend and not just another person trying to sell them something.

You emails should provide information and most people have subscribed to your email list because they want solutions. Your emails should provide them with solutions and information on that topic. You have to been seen as the expert for your emails to benefit you and once you have this your emails can be as short as you like.

If you subscribers see you as an expert and they respect your opinion you will be able to send emails that will be read word for word and all your calls to action will be answered.

What works best for email copy? Short and information packed.

Online Sales and Marketing vs Traditional Online Sales and Marketing vs Traditional - Hi Evan, I am noticing that many of the posts in the Sales/Marketing section deal with online marketing, SEM and and SEO and Affiliates. I was wondering if it might be a good idea to separate that section into two; 1) Online Sales and Marketing; 2) Traditional Sales and Marketing
