3 Simple Shifts to Success in the New Economy
I was working with a number of small business owners last week, helping them to find their gravity and shift into growth. I love watching people have that first big A Ha moment - when their Gravity hits them right between the eyes. It is such a powerful and blessed experience for me every time it happens.
I sat down with one of the entrepreneurs to do a quick Value Mix assessment. I began asking her questions and she responded, based on information on her website, client testimonials and her own vision. Together we created a new (and more compelling) way of positioning and presenting her value - in under an hour.
When we were done, she was blown away. There in front of her was a clear and concise story - the story of why her customers needed her business. She asked me how I could do that, so quickly and easily?
The answer? Simple shifts.
I didn't know anything about her business that she didn't know. In fact, I knew far less. But I did have an advantage. I didn't share her status quo beliefs. I didn't see her business based on past experiences. I also didn't see the new economy as an impossible barrier to success. I saw her business through a fresh, Zero Gravity perspective. I also know that opportunities are all around us in this new economy - when we think differently. That was all the difference.
We can all shift from our Gravity - see our business through new eyes - and soar to sustainable profitable growth, especially in this new economy.
How? Here are a few tips simple shifts.
• Chat with fresh Keepers of the Truth. Stop asking all the same people the same questions. Share with new people about your business and ask them what they think. Get out and talk to prospects in new markets, successful business owners in different industries than yours - learn from their approaches and thinking. Talk to experts on this new economy, seek out businesses that have made themselves successful and understand how they shifted from the old economy to the new economy for growth.
• Shuffle the Deck. We all get used to seeing information in the same formats and patterns. So turn everything upside down. If you're used to presenting left to right, then present the information right to left. If customers and prospects are always listed by revenue, list them by new economy potential instead. Change the way you look at your information and you will change what you see.
• Stop saying no one succeeds in this new economy. That is a huge piece of Gravity thinking. It's also not true. Zero Gravity businesses are succeeding all around us. It's just that the news doesn't cover them - success doesn't sell. Every time you tell yourself that no one is exceeding, you create a stronger Gravity belief. Replace that belief with something along the lines of "In every economy I know that there are opportunities for me to thrive and grow my business." Consciously shift into Zero Gravity statements and you'll subconsciously shift into Zero Gravity thinking.
History has proven that the best opportunities for success come on the heels of an economic dip. Now is the time to shift your thinking and your actions. When you shift your focus from Gravity to Growth - your business will do the same.
