7 Examples of Status Quo Interruptus

This past week I've seen many instances of Status Quo Interruptus - my name for thinking and actions that break through status quo beliefs to soar into new worlds and discoveries. I wanted to share a few of these wonders of Status Quo Interruptus I've encountered. Some are about life, some about our world, some about business. But they all show one thing - what we believe today, what we know to be true - may just be old news right now!

Animal communication is a fad. How many of you think it's hocus pocus or accidental coincidence when scientists say animals 'talk' to them? Wouold you ever think of using a touchpad device to chat with a dolphin? Chalk one up for the iPad - and for the scientists who ditched their Gravity to help our dolphin friends communicate!

A man can lead a herd - My horse trainer sent this video to all of us cowgal wanna be's, to challenge our ability to think innovatively. This video goes far beyond! Forget the status quo about anything any of us ever believed about what we can do with a herd of horses.

A plant has leaves and an animal has skin - right? Not really. You can forget that status quo too.

Can that computer virus really eat my... We all know how pesky those little worms and viruses can be. But I bet you never thought this could happen....

California's going to sink with the Big One. We all know that the San Andreas fault is where the Big One, that final earthquake, will happen. And California will sink into the Pacific and Nevada will be coastal - right? Guess what, we're not the only ones!

Executives put their cards on the table. We leaders all talk about it, argue about it, plan around it. Yet the big HR question is usually how de we get our workers to tell us what they see and feel? Guess what, it's not just the workers who don't share their reality - it's ALL of us.

Flash is as standard as the internet We all know that Flash is a prerequisite for viewing anything on the internet that's worth viewing, right? Even though many of us hate it...it's a given we have to accept. Wanna make a bet? (And for you Apple and iPad naysayers - how about dumping your status quo beliefs and thinking out of the box (or beyond the mouse) like the rest of us?)

I continue to be amazed at what we can accomplish and discover when we chuck our Gravity and view our world, our lives or our business with a Zero Gravity perspective.

What's your favorite status quo interruptus of late? We Zero Gravity thinkers wanna hear about it!

Current Status Idea Current Status Idea - Greetings All I recently wasn't able to come on the forums for about a month and a half recently due to going on holidays, moving house and having extra pressure on at work. I was thinking about this and thought that everyone would believe that I only came on for a month to win a prize therefore possibly decreasing my credibility. In saying this, is possible add an option in the Profiles called "Current Status" that allows a user to select an option like "On Vacation", "Out of the state", "Away", "Overseas" etc (maybe displays in brackets next to the username) so that everyone knows they are actually unable to participate in the forums at any given time during the year? You devote yourself to a project but don't get credit for the results. You work around the clock to avoid a crisis, but your efforts are not recognized because no one notices a crisis that never occurs. YOu give what you think are clear instructions, but the job is not done, or is done wrong. ... Work is a special world because as we talk to get our jobs done, we are also being evaluated. Re: Template of Service Agreement/Contractor Agreement Re: Template of Service Agreement/Contractor Agreement - Shimmy- I, too, would be happy to share my template contract for a service provider. But beware, a template agreement may not be sufficient to properly address your needs. Some key differences between Employees and Service Providers: 1. Tax Status. Employers are responsible for withholding tax on employee's earnings. Independent Contractors are responsible for reporting their income/taxes. There is a significant reporting burden and liability associated with this. 2. Confidentiality/Intellectual Property. Often times, employee handbooks will specify an employees confidentiality obligations and many states impute a duty of loyalty. Contractors are under no such obligations absent a written agreement. Same thing for IP/Creative works. The copyright Act draws a sharp and significant distinction between employees and contractors when it comes to ownership of creative works. 3. Liability for tortious acts. Generally an employer is liable for the tortious acts of its employees under the theory of respondeat superior. An entity hiring a contractor may/may not be liable, but without a written agreement for the contractor to indemnify/defend the hiring entity, their may be little recourse against the contractor. There are many other subtle differences too numerous to mention. I hope you find this helpful.
