Don't Let Those Assumptions Hold You Back!

How many times do we not take a positive step because we think going through that step is going to wreak havoc on our lives? Even if that step promises to make our lives better, once we go through the transition? That's why I haven't moved to an Apple computing platform. I know it's a better solution for what I need as an author, speaker and consultant. But I also assumed (there's that word) that it would take time and effort for me to get up to speed and be productive in my new iWorld. I dreaded the effort to set up a new system, learn the new tools.

So I've stuck with Windows, unhappy but safe - until my laptop decided to start blue screening and asking for boot restores on a daily basis. We all know what that means, now don't we?

This time I decided to make the jump to Apple. I'm beginning to do lots of video, more writing and production - so it's the right decision. I also wanted an iPad.

My assumption was that I'd need to dedicate the weekend to get myself productive. And then be ready to have a learning curve as I moved thru the next few weeks.

The Universe (and my laptop) conspired to show me just how wrong I was.

I took my laptop to the Apple Store to have them move the data to my new Macbook yesterday. Barbie (my laptop) did not cooperate (she's tired and moving data at a snail's pace) so Im going back today to pick up my MacBook.

I was concerned when they told me I'd have no system overnight - I can't be offline that long! But then a great Apple rep trained me on my iPad. That's when the light went on about how easy this transition will be. And how powerful my new Apple tools really are.

I came home last night and was immediately productive. Wow.

* I chatted on social media (Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin)

* I responded to all my emails

* I ordered a Sprint MiFi so that I now have a wireless hotspot wherever I go. (I'm tired of paying hotel and airport fees for WiFi)

* I surfed the web, read some blogs and news

* I edited a document I'd sent over from my laptop before I left the Apple Store

* I'm writing this blog using my iPad and Pages - Apple's alternative to Word.

* OH - and I read some of my book:)

That's pretty much what I'd do on any normal night. And I did it all with my iPad. The only thing I can't do is manage the video of the Rebel Rave I had planned for today - so we'll have to do it another time.

So much for the long transition and disrupted productivity!

My experience is yet another example. When we assume, we get stuck in our status quo beliefs - and that gravity usually limits our potential for growth.

Darn it - I wish I'd ditched my gravity sooner!

Re: Who hates cold calling? Re: Who hates cold calling? - I saw this and had to chime in. I HATE COLD CALLS. lol its terrible and a wast of my time. Something i have done is gotten online and found all the networking event happening in my area for the next 2 months and i try and go to about 3 a week. Even just for an hour. Dont bring any business cards. Just meet new people ask them alot about what they do, not too much about what i do and follow up the next day or 2. Has worked well
