Perfectionism is Highly Overrated
I was raised to be a perfectionist.
I was taught that I was wasting time, resources and the gifts God had given me if I wasn't performing at 100% (or better). That perfectionism carried over into my adult life - and darned near drove me crazy.
In my personal life - you could walk into my home at any point in time and take a picture for Architectural Digest or Home and Gardens - it was perfect, always. No one lived in my home - or at least you couldn't tell they did.
In my professional life, I pushed and pushed to make every project perfect. Whatever it took - 100 hours a week, all nighters before a launch, incessant attention to details that made teams shake their heads and wonder what drove me - I was all about perfect.
Then I realized that no one knew it was perfect - except me.
That's the day my life got much easier - as did the lives of those around me. All that extra pushing and craziness to reach perfection didn't really matter. Not to the rest of the world. No one noticed that last 20% of the work that drove me, and those around me by default - NUTS!
I'm not saying that I learned to be sloppy and not care about the details. I still worry over those little things - only now it's about the really important little things.
I learned that the old 80/20 rule is a friend for us all.
Maybe it's the 90/10 rule - depending on the situation. Whatever the percentage - my point is that there is a time when enough is enough and it's time to let go - versus spending precious energy and resources on chasing that last minute detail to reach perfection.
That last 10 - 20% can actually be more destructive than it is positive. Perfection takes too much time and effort - not to mention the drain it places on everyone involved, as everyone begins to wonder why their best isn't yet good enough.
Want a great example of the 80/20 rule in action? Look at the iPad. It's not perfect - the market has gone out of its way to point out that 20% that isn't there yet. Has that slowed iPad sales? Has it given Apple a black eye? Has it in anyway impacted the future of the iPad? Not really. In fact - it created a lot of chatter about the iPad -chatter and debate - the best marketing (free marketing I might add) that you can ask for.
Yes, it has given a lot of people a reason to stab at the iPad - but they would've done that even with the extra 20% in the product. That's just what they want to do -throw stones. In reality, the 20% hasn't impacted the iPad's popularity. By letting that 20% ride - Apple has room for product enhancements, they've powered into the market sooner than had they waited to ‘finish' the product - and they've focused on the 80% of functionality that mattered.
The Bottom Line: The next time you catch yourself reaching for perfection - think about what that perfection is costing you - in resource, time, effort and market leadership. Then think about how you can leverage the 80/20 rule to better create success for your efforts.

One book that comes to mind that covers it in an overall approach is "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" by Stephen Covey.
He addresses our inner life and the way it can change our effectiveness home and at work. There are corporations who have taken this model and effectively molded their business around it.

Think and Grow Rich seems more powerful each time I read it or dip into it. It's actually very easy to make your Alexa jump up very quickly as long as you are getting web savvy people to your site because they will more likely have the toolbar installed. That means webmasters, internet marketers, techies, and others along those lines. I've had sites go below the 100,000 mark in Alexa with relatively little traffic because they were getting this kind of traffic.
Now, the only problem with that is those are the same people that will not click on your ads or buy from your affiliate links. Highly targeted search traffic is where the money comes from for the most part, but those people won't help your Alexa at all because most of them won't have the toolbar installed. That's why in the grand scheme of things your Alexa ranking actually means nothing.
You have REALLY made it if your site hits a very low Alexa mark like under 50,000 and it's not from just getting tech savvy people to it. That means you are getting a ton of traffic and most of it is the right kind! That's ideal, obviously.
Michelle, I am not implying anything about your site in this post. I just kind of got on a ramble and decided to explain this to anyone who might not have already known.

It is Pay per click advertising. You have google, yahoo, MSN and other sites that offer it. Your ad shows up along site of the search results for the key words you specify and on other sites as "sponsered results". You could test the market with PPC (track where you get your hits from;keywords and so forth and use SEO to get FREE traffic), or Free methods like article marketing.. Either way you have to [u:ms4wci6i]know what your doing [/u:ms4wci6i](supply,demand, niche, [u:ms4wci6i]Highly[/u:ms4wci6i] targeted prospects, Location specifics [country, state,city,zip code,] etc.). Oh yeah and you have to have money. Because you are going to lose money if you are a beginner. Man I need to include this post on my blog...LOL Been a while since I been here. Just got this notification in my email and figured I'd help you out. Been working on my SEO.
To answer your other question there are LOTs of other Free ways to advertise/market. For example Forum marketing
Yahoo Answers (great for SEO to) But be careful not to bet banned.

US Free Leads
Article Marketing

Twitter
Yahoo blogs
Blogging (blogger,squidoo, hub pages)
Myspace
Facebook
Newspaper ads

etc.
The list goes on. These are just a few I though of off the top of my head. Now that I think of it I need to start doing more myself.
ideasuniversity had wrote quit a few good post on marketing/promotion, viral effects and such. You should check them out.
Just a word of advice, make sure you have the write niche first.

As far as your notebook preferences, I got a netbook about a year and a half ago (January 2010) for notetaking in classes, and for ultimate portability of computing power. The only limitation to the netbook is multi-tasking ability. I tend to do many, MANY things at once on a computer, and that was the biggest limitation for me. If you don't plan to be running 15 programs at a time, then I'd definitely suggest a $300~$350 investment in a netbook.

A bit late on the chime-in, but there's another tool, similar to Dropbox, called Syncplicity. I originally chose Syncplicity over dropbox because Syncplicity allows you to sync a folder with Google Docs, and it allows you to select which folders on your computer to sync (where Dropbox forces one folder for use). I have since moved to a combination of Syncplicity and Dropbox.
But really, either way, Syncplicity and Dropbox are both easy to use, and a great way to sync files from one computer to the other. Highly recommended that you look into it, if you haven't done so already.

Assuming you use something like Gmail as your primary email account, set up an email client (Outlook, Thunderbird, etc.) on both of your computers and use IMAP to access your email. IMAP is a protocol that "pushes" email to your client, similar to a blackberry, instead of POP email, which "pulls" email from the server every x minutes. IMAP also updates server information, such as where you've moved an email, if you've read it, replied to it, etc.
