The Other Side of Fear

Last week I blogged about Maverick's explosion after he held back from showing his fear for too long. Yesterday Maverick showed me just how powerful it can be after we admit our fear and ask for help.

He let us know he was afraid - and we all bonded together to help him thru that fear. We slowed down and took the time to show him that humans aren't half bad, to build his trust in us, and in himself. A very special lady at the ranch spent hours in his stall while I was at XBM - just loving him and getting him accustomed to humans in his space. That's all it took - a little bit of love and a lot of slowing down.

Just look at the results! A week ago my boy wouldn't run in the arena, wouldn't run anywhere. He was dull and slow and afraid to let his true self shine. His free spirit had been smothered by his fear.

No more. Just look at that boy - and this is 20 minutes into our play session. By the way, he stopped on four different occasions and came in to me - to let me rub him and feed him carrots -and then off he'd go to play some more. When he was done, he came in, I put his leadline on and he walked happily with me back to his home. He came to me, willingly, happily.

So what did I learn from Maverick?

The freedom we find on the other side of our fear is worth admitting that fear.

We all know that. Yet we procrasinate about something we dread, hold our fear inside instead of facing it and asking for help - until we make ourselves sick, angry, stressed and worse.

Yet once we face that fear - reach out for help - the relief is extraordinary. The freedom we feel, the uplifting hope and joy - makes us wonder why we didn't face our fear, ask for help sooner.

We've all been there - but Mav demonstrates it in such an exuberant way!

Status quo says to hide your weakness. I think its about time we all ditched that belief, opening to our fears - and the power we will find on the other side.

How about you?

Re: Fear of Success Re: Fear of Success - You don't need to fear success. We should embrace it. Fear is define by a man of God as False Evidence Appearing Real. the meaning is what we fear most does'nt come to pass

Re: Men don't wear ties (necktie: US) like before! Re: Men don't wear ties (necktie: US) like before! - Time and place. Some places of business really do require a tie. Depending on your business, you're often dressing for your client's comfort more than your own. When I meet with clients at a big corporate office downtown, I of course wear a suit. But when I meet clients in less formal settings, such as a restaurant in The East Village or Lower East Side (and I know my client is going to be wearing jeans), then I wear a stylish outfit that matches my environment, but is just slightly dressier than my surroundings. So I really dress for the setting I'll be in and also for my clients comfort. I noticed that when I started to wear dressier clothing, my clients actually matched me and upped the level of their own dress which I found interesting.
