Creating an Effective Advertisement - Direct Target Marketing

While running a business of any kind, advertising is the only way to generate leads and sales. Unfortunately, running an advertisement is not as easy as it may seem. Ineffective ads can result in wasted advertising resources, lost leads and lost sales. All of this costs your business money. The best way to generate traffic to your website or business is to implement direct target marketing. The first thing you need when deciding whom an advertisement is targeting is a person. Create an imaginary friend, if you will. This person needs to be specific and detailed. Ask the question, "Who am I marketing to?" Start out with a name. You may just want to call this person Bob, Mary or John. Ultimately, the best person to market to is you.

With your target named, now your target must be defined. Ask the question, "why did I get into this business," or, "Why would I want this product?" Create an age, residence, family, job for your target, and apply your answers to them. Remember to be specific.

An example of a developed target person could be something like this:

-John Payme

-Wants to work from home.

-Age: 30

-Current income: $30-40000/year

-Married

-1-3 children ages 3-8 years old

-He currently has a two-income family and would like to offer his wife a chance to stay at home with the children.

-He wants to work from home to spend more time to be with his family.

-He has tried a few times to make money online. Has a little experience with affiliate programs but is disinterested in their small payouts.

-He would like to live in a nicer neighborhood and maybe have a nicer home.

-He wants to supplement his income and eventually quit his job, maybe he is saving for a family vacation to Europe.

-He desires a H3 Hummer with tinted windows and an in-dash DVD player, but drives a beat up 1979 Honda Civic. Note how this person is defined even to the small detail of the extra features in his dream car, or family vacation spot. You want to remember that even though this not a real person, you need to be able to have a conversation with them. You need to be able to interact with this person because this is who your prospective customer or client will be.

In having a detailed market target, or your own "John," you will be able to overcome the obstacles of wasting advertisement resources, and monetary losses due to lost leads and sales. You will see an improvement in traffic to your website or calls to your business using this method of advertising. If in doubt try it out, but if you develop a detailed person that you are marketing your product or services to, and follow it to the tee, you will see your client interaction increase substantially.

Re: How should i promote a new website? Re: How should i promote a new website? - ignore this message IF it's already been stated. I haven't had a chance to read all the replies and i have to jet from the office... I suggest marketing where ever your Target Market congregates. If it's a forum of concerned parents - go there. Strike up a deal with the forum owner (JV) and have him promote it to the list of members (Integration Marketing). If you want to go with Forums then i would partner with a parent who is a frequent poster/moderator on a particular Target Market Forum and have him/her add your link to their signature. That was just a thought but it's not as intense once you get buy in from the Forum owner or high ranked poster/moderator. Hope that sparks some new ideas.
Re: Top 5 Magazines For SEO Re: Top 5 Magazines For SEO - Hi GT, Thanks for the update, I have checked out the others and as I think Jeff said earlier in this post, B2BM is the only free one as the rest are by subscription only although Target Marketing Magazine is free in the US only and there are some qualifying criteria to observe before you are accepted. I can’t justify the subscription to all of them but I will sign up to B2B and if any members subscribe to any of the others then perhaps you could give us some feedback, regards, Mal.
War Time clothing niche War Time clothing niche - Dan, interesting niche. Can you share some of your lessons learned in the following areas: 1. Marketing (Target market? and how you reach them) 2. Do you dropship or stock the products yourself? 3. How do you encourage repeat sales by your current customers? We don't get too many people in the Internet Business share these experiences. Your timing with the niche seems appropriate with war on everyones mind in the States. Do you find that during the last few years you've been getting more hits?

Permission Marketing - Seth Godin Think and Grow Rich seems more powerful each time I read it or dip into it. The 7 Habits not only offers some very effective ways to organize your life (which I have yet to master!), but also some great quotations and thought provoking statements including this by Nazi concentration camp survivor, Viktor Frankl: [i:2naxzsom]Between stimulus and response, man has the freedom to choose.[/i:2naxzsom] Seth Godin's Permission Marketing is a good read for anybody seeking to understand how to approach doing business on the Internet in the right way with regard to winning people's trust.
Starting a New Business Starting a New Business - Congratulations on the first step of deciding to create your own business. First, you have to ascertain if you are going to be selling your products or services to people or to businesses. People purchase products and services for three basic reasons: •To satisfy basic needs •To solve problems •To make themselves feel good. You have to determine which of these three categories your product or service is the solution to. Businesses, unlike individuals, buy products and services for three reasons as well: •To increase revenues •To maintain the status quo •To decrease expenses. Knowing the reasons why people/businesses buy, you should have a picture emerging of who you think your "Target Market" (or ideal customer) is. Once you have zeroed in on your solution, you are ready to create your Marketing Strategy. If you look at any company that has grown rapidly over the past few years, (i.e. WestJet and Starbucks), it should demonstrate to you the importance of Marketing. In simple terms these companies have: •Clearly defined what makes them different; •Who their ideal customer is; •How to reach them; •Why customers should buy from them; •And most importantly why customers should come back again. It is strong Marketing Awareness that singles out the best companies. I can not stress enough how important it is to create a "living" Marketing Plan before you even start. I hope this helps a little in the creation of your plan. All the very best of luck. Remember: "A Goal without a Plan is just a Wish" Miles of Smiles, Marketing Maven
