Don't Forget the Forums

When people think of social media and internet marketing, one valuable tool for generating traffic and increasing business is often forgotten: online forums. We all know they exist because most of us have used them at one point or another to ask questions and figure things out, but we don't always see their potential as a marketing medium.

People use forums to get information and answers to questions that they either can't find or don't want to spend hours looking for. Forums exist on just about every topic possible so take a little time to search out a few that are relevant to your business and start participating. If you are a freelance writer you could look for forums on grammar, essay writing, journalism, blog writing and the list goes on and on.

Write knowledgeable and informative posts on topics that your business deals with and lead readers back to your site by simply adding a link. Forums are a great way to personalize your business so refrain from directly advertising in a post or copying and pasting content right from your site. If you're answering someone's question, address that person by name or username if that's the case. Let them know your answer is for them to provide them with a more personal experience and you'll see more positive results.

Regularly participating in forums can be a little time consuming to start, but once you find a few that generate a lot of traffic through backlinks, it will become a quicker and simpler process. Most forums are also very easy to navigate as well by listing topics, number of threads and number of replies so you don't have to search through each one individually to find there is nothing to post on. Once users start to see your replies more frequently and come to trust your expertise, your business will grow faster.

Instead of posting links to your website in each post you can change it up a little by inserting videos directly into your replies as well. Many people would prefer to watch a video over reading paragraphs of information and if your thumbnail image is interesting they will be more likely to click on it.

Forums are a significant, simple and cost effective method of marketing your business online. They will increase your traffic and your profit, and shouldn't be forgotten.
