Increase Profits by Up-selling

There's no need to think that up-selling is only for the food industry. The well known "would you like fries with that" method has proven successful for businesses of all kinds, especially online businesses where images dominate. Whether you offer a product or service, there is a profitable way to up-sell to current and potential clients.

If you're selling products there are a number of ways to increase your average sale by offering your customers well matched suggestions throughout the purchase process. A well known and successful online business that does this is Amazon. Whenever you search for a book, you will also receive a list of suggested books that are similar to the one you're looking for. It's not rare that you'll buy one of these books as well or choose one of them instead of the one you originally wanted. They even take it a step further and offer discounts if you pair your book with another suggested book as an incentive to get you to buy both.

You don't always have to up-sell with the same type of product though. Most online clothing stores will offer suggestions for jewelry, shoes and bags to go with the clothing you've chosen. You want to match your customers' purchases with complimentary items that are hard to refuse. Don't forget to use images to your advantage because online shoppers are not likely to purchase something that they can't see a clear, detailed image of.

If you sell services like freelance writing, photography or web design you should also consider ways to up-sell your services. As a photographer you can offer individual photo prices or offer package deals like 20 photos for the price of 16 to encourage your customers to purchase more photos. You could also sell them frames or a CD with their digital photos so they can have them reprinted at another time. If you write blog posts for companies you could up-sell by suggesting that your customers buy articles for distribution at a discounted price.

Up-selling your products or services is the best way to increase your average sale. Taking the time to match your products carefully and thoughtfully, and by using high quality images and detailed descriptions you can drive your profit through the roof. It's a simple and proven method of driving success so it only makes sense to give it a try.

Re: Joomla Now Has A GetResponse Module Re: Joomla Now Has A GetResponse Module - Hi Kevin, Interesting that you tried Joomla and then gave up on it. So did I! There is a lot to be said for Joomla. It can make your site look very professional, you can completely change design in just a few clicks of your mouse, and if you add anything to a panel you can display it throughout your site... Also, Joomla does seem to suck in traffic. My traffic stats improved with Joomla, probably because of the interactive features it offers, such as the article directory feature and so on. However, I also experienced various frustrations with Joomla. HTML is simpler and you have complete control over your site, but you do have to recode every page when you make design changes... (unless you are prepared to learn CSS and then deal with all the browser problems...) Also, I market the Plug-In Profits Site and came to the conclusion that it would be better business practice to show my potential customers what can be done with a Plug-In Profits site by using one myself and modifying it to suit my purposes. After all, there is no better advertisement for a product than the fact that the seller also uses it! On the other hand, I know a lot of Internet marketers who love Joomla, so I think it is just a matter of choosing what works best for you. ... And if you like Joomla and use the GetResponse autoresponder service, life just got easier for you! David H

Re: Twitter vs Facebook Re: Twitter vs Facebook - [quote="Trent Brownrigg":395jl6mx]If we're talking about which one I like more overall then it is definitely Facebook! If we're talking about which one I use for business more then it is Twitter. Although I still don't think it is very good for that.[/quote:395jl6mx] Trent, This actually one of the few times I'm of the opposite opinion with you. Facebook to me is a hodgepodge of teeny bobbers and IM wannabes who spam me constantly wanting me to join their groups, programs, etc etc. I do know of several good applications there that do take advantage of the huge amount of traffic and use it to help others. Causes is my favorite at Facebook and they do raise tremendous amounts of funds for Non Profits as well as increase the supporter counts etc. Twitter, I'll have to say is nearly worthless if your talking conversion rates from your twits or relationships from most of the other marketers who spam your inbox etc. What works extremely well for me personally at twitter is my twitterfeed. My blog and rss feed from several of my sites are pinged to twitter. Just as an example a recent comment I made on my sites 2.0 application was picked up at google within an hour and on page 1 first result no less for a pretty competitive keyword linking to the twitter feed. By the next day the actual page took it's place and has remained there ever since. Twitter has excellent pagerank so twits can rank very well similar to high page rank forums posts. The difference is the tweets link to your site, assuming your twitting from a feed, and get the SE's attention very quickly. The SE's will then replace the results from twitter with your actual sites page normally if you have any decent clickthroughs and decent content on the page to begin with. To me that's a huge difference between facebook and twitter. Although I won't discount facebook's 100s of millions of members either. Just haven't had the time or inclination to utilize it like I do twitter since pinging my blog feeds is so simple, handsoff etc. Cheers, Zac
