Creating the right goals for your home business.

Many aspiring home based business owners have contacted me for information. As I have been coaching them to help them decide if this opportunity is right for them I have also been screening them to decide if they are right for my team. There are five essential qualities I look for as I decide which applicants to accept on my team. They must be able to effectively set goals, show a commitment to action, a willingness to learn, a positive winning attitude, and ability to perform as part of a team .

This is the first in a series of articles discussing each of these qualities in more depth. My intent is to share my criteria for building winning team.Today I want to go into more depth about setting effective goals.

Imagine you are going on a long driving trip. You wouldn't think of leaving your driveway without a quality road map to serve as a plan for your trip. How could you possibly expect to get where you wanted to go if you didn't know how to get there?Your personal goals for your home based business are the road map to your success with your home based business. As you follow your own road map to success your business will grow and you will see steady progress toward your goals.

So what are the essentials of effective goals? Some of them should be short term while others should be longer term. They should be clearly defined so that you can tell if and when you have met them.Your goals must be reasonable but they should also challenge you to reach and stretch to achieve more.

Your short term goals will help set your daily plan, your "to do" list. These will help you maintain your momentum for steady progress. They will directly support what you want to achieve and will help measure your success on a daily basis. They will help you maintain focus on your success and help you make the most of your time.Your longer term goals will set your vision for your ultimate success. These are the ones that make your dreams come true.

All goals should be clearly defined. They must be written down and you must follow them daily. They will answer the questions of who, what, when, and where. When you discover you have fallen short of achieving your goals (none of us are perfect, are we? ) you will find that having them clearly defined will help you see exactly where you have fallen short and the action you need to take is obvious.

You need to have realistic goals. If they are not realistic you will quickly become discouraged and will waste your time.If they are realistic then you will see on a daily basis the progress you are making. Some of your goals must also challenge you to do more than you think you can. These stretch goals are the secret to achieving your longer term goals and making your dreams come true.

Finally, you need to be ruthless in reviewing your progress. If you do not meet a goal you must review the original goal, and your actions to meet it.Then you will be able to revise the goal and decide what you need to do to meet that goal.

Re: Prospecting for a Franchise? Hold Tight Re: Prospecting for a Franchise? Hold Tight - A big business idea (although somewhat morbid) is to start a funeral home franchise. The business is booming, regardless of this economic down turn. People are always passing, and the baby boom is passing at an alarming rate. The business will be steady and prosperous for many decades to come. Creating a reputable, honest, and respectable franchise around funeral services may be big business. Food for thought nonetheless.

They simply have im - To stay motivated and work to achieve your goals, first thing is that the goals must be ones that you truly want and believe you can achieve. If the goals are ones that you think you should have,(in other words impotent goals) then forget it, it just won't happen. MichelleJ
Re: Did you meet your goals in 2010? Re: Did you meet your goals in 2010? - Hey Yinka, I met some of my goals, but I didn't meet others. One of my goals was to get out of debt. I managed to do so, only to get back into debt due to an unforeseen circumstance. Business-wise, I didn't quite reach the goals I had; although, I came much closer than I did back in 2009. At least it was an improvement, and I expect to reach my goals for 2011. Best wishes for you, and I hope you can reach all the goals you set.
Re: The Best Method for Online Marketing Re: The Best Method for Online Marketing - There is no one "best" solution for all, because each organization is going to have different goals and capabilities. I recently gave a presentation about social media marketing, where I talked about the importance of aligning activities with goals and having metrics that track your progress towards those goals. If you're experimenting with online marketing, there's a good chance you'll find some activities are more effective than others. In my experience, you'll increase your chances for success if you're disciplined about establishing goals and metrics (how you'll measure progress) but flexible on activities as you respond to customer feedback and results. Best wishes for your business! Jay B. (Intuit)
How can I start home-based business? How can I start home-based business? - I am not sure what you mean by home-based and how my story can help but my home-based business is my web design business. I can work from home and go out to meet my clients. These times (When I'm out) is the most 'dangerous', because if clients need some files or if something didn't get through email, I'll need to find the nearest internet hot spot (i bring my external hard drive everywhere) to service the client or come up with an excuse. initially it was difficult, working from home and starting up. work was scarce but I knew it was only in the beginning. after 5 months, I have quite a constant flow of work but still the cheques are not that regular but its getting there. I met other people who has started home-based business and they range from travel agents to company secretaries. hope that helps
