· Tweetworks: allows you to create groups, or belong to them and find like-minded people
· TwitterFeed: Feeds your blog posts to Twitter
· Twitterdoodle – searches for keywords in Twitter and creates content on your blog to show the keywords Tweets.
Every tool is reasonably easy to use and really helps your Twitter experience.
You’ve noticed that Wordpress plugins are included. These aren’t strictly tools for helping you Twitter, instead they help spread your Tweets further afield, on your blog.
Twitter In Action:
Whenever you begin a campaign to inform your followers of specific launches, meeting or events you’re involved in use hashtags so that they can easily find all the information you’re putting out about the subject and also so they can contribute to the conversation with the same tag. A hashtag is simply a label at the beginning of the tweet that has a hash symbol(#) as the first character and a few other characters to make the label unique.
With a hashtag you can label a series of tweets related to a single conversation thread or event. Doing so makes it easier for anyone to follow the conversation or group discussion.
And naturally there are tools that enable you to check out your own, and others, hashtags:
· Twemes
· hashtags.org
Twemes shows what is being Tweeted about. Or you can search for a single hashtag by going to http://www.twemes.com/abc where abc is the hashtag #abc (note the # symbol is dropped in the URL).
Twemes can display Twitter updates for a specific hashtag in a blog sidebar. This can be risky as anyone can use your hashtag in their Tweet and you may not want what they say in the Tweet on your blog.
See http://twitter.pbwiki.com/hashtags for further information on hashtags.
Twitter Automation
Several Twitter tools allow you to schedule Tweets in advance of posting them. These are tools such as:
· Tweetlater
· Twuffer
It’s worth sounding a note of caution here on using automation tools.
Many people see Twitter as a tool for conversation. Therefore if you automate your Tweets too much it’s rather like someone ringing you up for a chat and you playing a recording of what you want to say to them down the phone – rude and very one-way.
A consequence is that they’ll slam the phone down on you. In the same way you’ll lose followers with Twitter if you use too much automation, because the conversation is all one way.
There is a case for automation if you know that a certain event is going to happen that you want your followers to know about and you can’t be there to let them know.
In the end though the amount of automation is up to you and can be discovered by trial and error.
