Make Twitter Easier With These Twitter Tools

Some of the tools available on Twitter border on the insane. For example Cursebird shows all tweets with swearing in them.

The popularity of Twitter creates loads of new tools.

Here is a list of tools with a short explanation for each one:

· Qwitter: You get told when one of your followers leaves
· Tweet Scan: Allows you to set-up and save searches
· Twuffer: You can schedule your tweets for later
· Twitterank: find out where you rank against all the other Twitterers
· TweetStats :Discover statistics on which day you tweet most and the top twitter trends
· TweetValue:See how much your Twitter profile is worth in dollars
· TwitterCounter: Shows the top 100 most popular Twitterers and how your followers are growing - or falling
· Twellow :: Twitter Search Directory, (Twitter Search Engine)
· Twist - see trends in twitter. You can check and chart your keywords as they appear in Tweets.
· TwitterBuzz - The most popular links on Twitter - URL Popularity
· Twitscoop - Search twitter, see what's hot right now
· Twitter Firefox Addons- Twitter Chat

· Tweet Grid – useful set of tables that you can set searches to display topics you’re interested in seeing on Twitter

· Twitterverse: See Tweets on a world map as they occur (well nearly!)
· TweetLater: Schedule Future-Dated Twitter Tweets and set-up keyword alerts
· Tweetwheel: shows all the interconnections between your followers. Some followers don’t even connect to any of your current followers
· Tweetworks: allows you to create groups, or belong to them and find like-minded people
· TwitterFeed: Feeds your blog posts to Twitter
· Twitterdoodle – searches for keywords in Twitter and creates content on your blog to show the keywords Tweets.

Every tool is reasonably easy to use and really helps your Twitter experience.

You’ve noticed that Wordpress plugins are included. These aren’t strictly tools for helping you Twitter, instead they help spread your Tweets further afield, on your blog.

Twitter In Action:

Whenever you begin a campaign to inform your followers of specific launches, meeting or events you’re involved in use hashtags so that they can easily find all the information you’re putting out about the subject and also so they can contribute to the conversation with the same tag. A hashtag is simply a label at the beginning of the tweet that has a hash symbol(#) as the first character and a few other characters to make the label unique.
With a hashtag you can label a series of tweets related to a single conversation thread or event. Doing so makes it easier for anyone to follow the conversation or group discussion.
And naturally there are tools that enable you to check out your own, and others, hashtags:
· Twemes
· hashtags.org
Twemes shows what is being Tweeted about. Or you can search for a single hashtag by going to http://www.twemes.com/abc where abc is the hashtag #abc (note the # symbol is dropped in the URL).
Twemes can display Twitter updates for a specific hashtag in a blog sidebar. This can be risky as anyone can use your hashtag in their Tweet and you may not want what they say in the Tweet on your blog.
See http://twitter.pbwiki.com/hashtags for further information on hashtags.

Twitter Automation
Several Twitter tools allow you to schedule Tweets in advance of posting them. These are tools such as:

· Tweetlater
· Twuffer

It’s worth sounding a note of caution here on using automation tools.

Many people see Twitter as a tool for conversation. Therefore if you automate your Tweets too much it’s rather like someone ringing you up for a chat and you playing a recording of what you want to say to them down the phone – rude and very one-way.

A consequence is that they’ll slam the phone down on you. In the same way you’ll lose followers with Twitter if you use too much automation, because the conversation is all one way.

There is a case for automation if you know that a certain event is going to happen that you want your followers to know about and you can’t be there to let them know.

In the end though the amount of automation is up to you and can be discovered by trial and error.

Re: Using Twitter To Double Your Traffic? Re: Using Twitter To Double Your Traffic? - I'm sure in many cases Twitter sends more traffic than Search Engines because most people don't have good enough SE rankings to get SE traffic. But anyone can get Twitter traffic. The problem is that Twitter traffic won't convert for the most part and SE traffic will. I'd venture to say that 98% of the time getting just 100 visitors from search is better than getting 2000+ from Twitter.

Re: Social Media Works If You Do It Right... Re: Social Media Works If You Do It Right... - Hi Michelle, Ah, but it seems hashtags are still being used by a lot of people - including Twitter! So I would still use them for your keywords. It's just that if you are searching for something on Twitter you can either go the #hashtag route, or do a direct search on the Twitter homepage. I guess you could use #hashtags when searching on the Twitter homepage as well! DH
Re: Facebook or Twitter? Re: Facebook or Twitter? - Thanks for the feedback guys! I personally started with Twitter and am now moving over to Facebook. I polled people on both my accounts and (not surprisingly) the Twitter people said Twitter and the Facebook people said Facebook! The actual order of my social media presence looks like this: 1) LinkedIn (with little success) 2) Twitter 3) YouTube 4) Facebook
