Social Media Can Grow Your Business

A good business needs to be continually testing new ways of getting business or modifying approaches, deliveries and products. And by testing and improving you can grow your business further, faster.

After all as Peter Drucker says,

“Business has only two functions - marketing and innovation.”

Internet Innovation

And one of those ways is to get on board the social media circus, including blogging and Twittering.

The power of social media (blogging, Twitter and others) is that it allows a two-way conversation between you and your prospects and customers.

That means it becomes a powerful way of communicating the reasons why you do things, your own values, the values of your company and a way of providing customers and prospects with added value and giving them a human side to your business.

Blogging Examples:

An example of a business blog in action is my own “Business-Powerpack" Blog. The posts I provide are there to help businesses grow. Other businesses use blogs to communicate the status of company issues or provide behind the scenes insights or provide a free ebook on a topic that interests clients. The list of what you can do with a blog is almost endless.

Blogs can be used for a completely off-the-wall purpose. For example I run a blog called the Manchester Blog. It's purely to post about absolutely anything I can think of about Manchester.

You’d think only rabid and loyal Mancunions would read such a blog. Not so, there are readers from all over the world and different parts of Britain too.

Twitter Baffles Many

Twitter is a very useful tool. I signed up just after it started (around 2006) and set up @jymsym as my first Twitter account.

Until you begin using Twitter it may be difficult to understand how useful it can be. You can find new employees through it, meet new contacts and even understand the mindset of prospects you really want to become customers!

So let's consider why we should use social media in a company...

· You provide prospects with your personal and human side
· You provide clients with more information and round out what they know about you
· You can attract leads you would never have thought of
· social media sites are extrememly easy to create and update
· You can make money from it
· It can boost your Google rating very nicely thank you

I will tell you that the world is about 1 1/2 behind when it comes to understanding social media. Building a section now will put EvanCarmichael.com is a great position a year down the road when people realize Social Media can produce more traffic than SEO. Jeff

Re: UPDATES: New Campaign! New Layout! New Ideas! Re: UPDATES: New Campaign! New Layout! New Ideas! - GT - thanks for the FYI - I'm not sure if we'll put a link back. Something to consider though! Trent - the new category is "Social Network and Media" which was put in to compliment the Online Businesses category that currently exists. Overall the new categories are: - Looking For, Networking and Events - Review My... - Social Network and Media - Brags and Rants These came as a result of Ringo doing research on other forums and thinking about what could be improved on ours to give a better experience for everyone. I hope you enjoy them! David, I'm looking forward to reading your Brag / Rant!
Re: Marketing 2.0 - What Are Your Thoughts Re: Marketing 2.0 - What Are Your Thoughts - Hi Shri, Thanks for posting this. I also read it and I believe Social Media is here to stay, until the next best thing comes up. Social media proved to be useful for me many times and I think everyone should use it for their business.
Re: Social Media Marketing Ignorance Re: Social Media Marketing Ignorance - [quote="vbn411":7qciluxl]Social Media is space that you have to be in to succeed in our current climate. People are going to be discussing your brand / product whether you like it or not, so you might as well join the conversation and add value. [/quote:7qciluxl] I think that's probably one of the most realistic way to think about it. There's no real textbook way of understanding Social Media, it's the networks of people and their interactions that will exist with or without your input. As for Jennifer, You can always have 2 Facebook pages. Many people do. There is also LinkedIn, which is like a professional networking version of Facebook. The only way to know is to try it.
