I was told that to make proper revenue from my website, I have to work on the search engine optimization by following the rules of the search engines, and then spend a lot of money in banner advertising and other print advertising; all for the sake of getting more traffic to my website. The steps above are important and effective but only if our website has a real value for our visitors, it needs to be user-friendly and easy to navigate and project the right image. The site will attract visitors organically after some time by the power of referral and the features below:

1- Professional design: the website design and coloring is one of the crucial factors affecting the number of returning customers and sales generation.

2- User friendly: language proficiency is not similar among the visitors, using simple language and organized content will help them identifying the right path.

3- Trusted content: some webmasters relying on some FEED resources to fill their websites content, while we should take care of every single word that is going to be published on our website.

Blog commenting - does it worth? - Hi. I would like to know how many of you consider blog commenting a marketing strategy and if there is traffic generated doing this? I started to comment to appropriate blogs and i saw an increasing traffic. But i don't know if there is a return of investment. I invest time. A lot of time. But the traffic received is very modest. I don't know if i should continue or not.
Re: Alexa Ranking Goals - Alexa CAN be a good measurement of traffic but for the most part it isn't. I have several sites that get a ton of traffic and their Alexa ranking is not as good as other sites I own that barely get any traffic. I've heard a lot of other people with the same experience between their own sites. Also, if your site is catered to a tech savvy market your Alexa will be much higher because most of them will have the toolbar installed. But if your site is about something like crafts then you will not have a good Alexa ranking even if your site gets a lot more traffic than the tech site. Basically what I am trying to say is that you should never judge a site based on its Alexa ranking. It might be a small part of the equation but it shouldn't be taken at face value.
Re: Traffic! How do you get it? - I also wonder if the type of site you are using could play a factor with traffic. For example my business site I have been working on for a year now, has about 700 backlinks. I rank on page one for my site keywords, have numerous blog posts, articles you name it I have done it. It runs on a standard html format config. My new fishing site, which runs on Worpress gets triple the traffic that my business site does with a lot less effort. I know PR doesn't really mean much but my fishing site skipped right passed PR1 and went to a two while my business site took about 10 months to get a 2. Just a thought, but it has started me thinking. Tim.
Re: Why You Need to Redesign Your Website Right Now - This comment might be a little off base but I hope not. My personal opinion of having a great website design is it doesn't matter one little bit if you don't have traffic. You can have the best looking WEB 2.0 site on the Internet but if no one see's it it won't do a bit of good. Spend the majority of time building traffic and the least amount of time changing your site especially when you're new or have a new site.

We will have a drawing in which we will give away 50 vacations to the local ski resort in our community. Each of the 1,000,000 entry forms for the drawing will have the web address prominently displayed on it. We expect to drive a large volume of traffic to the site using this technique.
