3 Resources For Finding Niche Topics For Squidoo Lenses
Don't you just LOVE being in the know?
We all know that knowledge is power, and that if you want to position yourself as an expert, you need to have knowledge that people want.
It isn't enough to know that your second-cousin on your mom's side is double jointed and should really be in the circus...because outside of family reunions and reality television, when is that going to actually be useful?
That said, I'm going to share three helpful resources for identifying knowledge that is actually worth having, and better yet, worth creating lenses about.
Of course there are more than three, but I didn't want to overwhelm you.
By focusing on just three resources, you are far more likely to take the additional step of actually checking them out (as opposed to simply scrawling them down on what is no doubt an ever-growing to-do list).
So, let's just stick to these three for now.
Resource #1: Tweet Scan
After Twitter search was disabled, folks were scrambling about looking for a way to quickly obtain information from Twitter. Tweet Scan is one of several such directories, but it is the one that I use the most often.
What Makes it a Great Resource:
On the Tweet Scan homepage is a tag cloud that creates a visual representation of the topics that are the "most tweeted" at that particular time. The larger the type, the hotter the topic. If you want more information on any particular tag, just click on it.
It doesn't get much easier that this - and there is plenty of potential to stumble upon blogs that offer feeds that you could utilize in your lens creation.
Resource #2: Alexa
From Alexa's website - "Founded in April 1996, Alexa Internet grew out of a vision of Web navigation that is intelligent and constantly improving with the participation of its users. Along the way Alexa has developed an installed based of millions of toolbars, one of the largest Web crawls and an infrastructure to process and serve massive amounts of data."
What Makes it a Great Resource:
By glancing at their homepage, you can quickly get a run-through of the top ten hot URL's on the web at any given time. Want more than ten? Click on the link at the bottom of the list.
For those who like to get their information from RSS, you can quickly get a look at the top sites by country by subscribing to one of Alexa's free feeds.
Resource #3: Springwise
I love this site! It features cool, innovative business ideas from around the world. Broken down into multiple categories, you can browse this site easily, and come up with literally DOZENS of lens ideas.
What Makes it a Great Resource:
From their website, "Springwise and its network of 8,000 spotters scan the globe for smart new business ideas, delivering instant inspiration to entrepreneurial minds." The site also has a Most Read quick list on the home page, for those who may be in a hurry. While you are browsing the site, don't forget to sign up to receive their weekly newsletter. I would recommend this site for anyone who is interested in staying on the cutting edge of new business trends and ideas.
