Manage Results with Activity Reporting

Many low performers stay under the radar for months before it becomes apparent that they are not actually doing any work of real substance. Be proactive with managing results and implement a weekly or monthly activity reporting process. Use Demand Metric's Activity Reporting Tool as a starting point for this initiative.

What's Included in an Activity Report?

Action Plan:

  1. Discuss with Staff- schedule a meeting to discuss reporting requirements and your new weekly/monthly activity reporting process. Explain the benefits from your perspective, as well as, your staff's perspective. The goal here is to ensure that results are being delivered in a timely, efficient manner. It may take some persuasion to convince your team that a little time spent with reporting will take pressure off for those who are high-performing.
  2. Customize your Activity Report- use Demand Metric's downloadable Activity Reporting Tool as a baseline to create an Activity Report that aligns to your project management processes.
  3. Set your Reporting Schedule- based on your business, determine if weekly, monthly, or quarterly Activity Reports will be the best fit. Demand Metric recommends a monthly reporting schedule, as quarterly reports often omit important details.

Run a major competition Run a major competition - You beat me to the punch LoveInventions! I was just on my way to post this! The idea is simple: run a competition for a major prize to get people posting. In this case Darren put up a $729 Nikon DSLR up for grabs as the top prize. The winner was selected randomly and each post you wrote gave you another chance to win. [quote:1nc4sv0r]The Goal - the aim of the exercise was simple. To sign up new members to my forum and increase page views. My hope was to have a bumper month but also get new members signed up to have an ongoing impact on overall activity going forward.[/quote:1nc4sv0r] [quote:1nc4sv0r]Results: Traffic - Over the full month traffic was increased 66.7%.[/quote:1nc4sv0r] [quote:1nc4sv0r]Results: New Members - Recruiting new members to the forum was another goal of the competition. We’d had an influx in January of 1803 new sign ups as a result of a previous smaller competition but since had been around the 1200 per month. April however saw a boost in numbers by an extra 2823 members.[/quote:1nc4sv0r] [quote:1nc4sv0r]Results: Activity - Another bonus related to increased traffic is the increases in user activity on the forum. Here’s the increase in new ‘threads’ to the forum (up from the 1500’s to just over 4000 for the month). And here is the increase in new posts (up from 1400 per month to over 43000 for the month).[/quote:1nc4sv0r] [quote:1nc4sv0r] The Downside So far it’s sounding fairly rosy isn’t it. Increases in traffic, members, activity and even earning are all good. However there was two downsides. 1. Moderation Workload - I have an amazing team of moderators to DPS but the month of April was the hardest that they’ve ever worked. I totally underestimated the extra load upon them in setting up this competition. It has made me reconsider how I run future competitions. 2. Impact upon Quality of Reader Interaction - over all the increased activity of the site brought in some wonderful new members who are interacting on the site with genuine interaction. However a small number of new members were just there for the competition - even though I made it clear that spammy entries wouldn’t win. This impacted moderators workloads but also the overall morale on the site a little. I think we managed to contain it but again - next time I run a competition it’ll not be based upon post numbers but rather some sort of quality level of interaction.[/quote:1nc4sv0r] What do you guys think? Is it worth testing out? Considering we already give out over $1,000 in month prizes, what would be the ultimate prize that we award at the end of the competition?
Need help in Team Building Activity.. Need help in Team Building Activity.. - Hi! I am tasked to organize a Team Building Activity in the office. Re: Stopping Drive-by Spam Re: Stopping Drive-by Spam - [quote:2bijpsoh]One was extremely graphic porn images that I hope I zapped before too many visitors ran across.[/quote:2bijpsoh] [quote:2bijpsoh]Thanks to those of you who have have been reporting questionable posts to me. Your comments in the private messages section are appreciated. Also, for your convenience and to save you time, you can report the spammers by clicking the "report" icon that appears in each post, to the left of the person's avatar. It is the exclamation mark inside of a triangle.[/quote:2bijpsoh] Still why I think we need to have more global moderators. As I pointed out in the thread about that, if you (GT) don't get here quick enough or if you aren't around on certain days then something like "extremely graphic porn images" could just sit here on the forum for everyone to see. Whereas if more of us could actually delete posts it would be zapped as soon as one of us saw it. Plus, it saves more time. Reporting posts and explaining why, or sending you a PM about someone takes extra time. It might only be a few minutes a day but it adds up. But if I could just hit delete and be done there's barely any time wasted. And it's a lot less work for you. I know you probably don't mind doing it but I am sure having some help would be nice. Like I said before, every forum I moderate or have ever moderated (except this one) has global moderators. I see no reason why we can't do it that way here too.
Re: What exactly do you need to start a business Re: What exactly do you need to start a business - Hi phummy, I’m not sure what options you have in Nigeria or maybe you already know what you want to do but like any business, it’s all about supply and demand. Is there an interest in the product or service you are selling? Have you researched the market, perhaps approach other competitors to see what they have to offer, do you have any experience in the field. When you have researched your niche and decided what you want to do then it’s time for your business plan. Set your budget (very important) and stick to it, will you be working from home or an office and what equipment/stationary will you need. Manage your time effectively to concentrate on things that will push your business forward. Set realistic goal’s and stick to your plan. Coming to places like this forum are a godsend as you can save yourself time and grief by coming here and asking questions, good luck to you, Mal.
Why A Project Fails? Why A Project Fails? - Hello Everyone As the size and complexity of ones business grows, so does their need to effectively manage projects. I have been thinking about the major reasons why a project can go wrong and my limited experience comes up with the following. 1 Leadership: A project manager with leadership skills and not just management skills. 2 Failure to (Foresee and) Plan 3 Failure to Manage: Ineffective change management control methods. Unclear decision making guidelines. 4 Talent: Finding, allocating and developing people 5 Scope: Setting an overly ambitious or amibigious project scope 6 Alignment: When projects are not prioritized in alignment with the business strategy, or project members personal objectives are not in tandem with that of the project / company 7 Lack of Candor: Communication Breakdowns I would be interested in knowing everyone's thoughts on this, especially on ways to overcome the above mentioned obstacles. Cheers!
