Creativity rarely strikes in a flash but more typically results from accumulated knowledge, steady cogitation and practice. Multitasking, for all its current popularity and seeming efficiency, can exact a heavy toll on the quality of our output.
Even simple tasks like driving and talking on the phone can be downright dangerous.
Yes! We need to focus on one thing at a time in order to do it well. And creativity really demands concentration.
Perhaps the most unexpected and comforting, recent research confirms that the human brain retains an astonishing degree of plasticity and capacity for learning throughout life. And the thing we do best is the one we love the most.
That's because at some point in our lives we became passionate about something and concentrate on improving our performance in regard to what we fell in love with in the first place.
Like great actors or athletes who constantly strive to improve their performance with dedication and practice,
I too am content with doing just one thing and I hope to do it just a bit better each time. So make it your mantra too.
