ReceiptRolls.com Discusses Thermal Paper

ReceiptRolls.com has been serving customers for more than 50 years. Their products include bond, thermal, multi-ply paper rolls, direct thermal labels, thermal transfer labels and ribbons, toner cartridges, and many others. ReceiptRolls.com extends their services to retail, financial, and hospitality markets, local and state governments, and small to medium resellers.

Thermal paper offered through ReceiptRolls.com is a fine paper that contains a chemical which, when heated, changes color. This “ink” shows up whenever a paper roll runs through and is heated by a credit card terminal, cash register, or adding machine.

The surface of thermal paper contains a solid-state mixture of a matrix and a dye. As the matrix heats up to its melting point, the acid reacts with the dye, changes to colored form, and is preserved in metastable state as the matrix returns to a solid state rather quickly. Generally, the coating is made to turn black as it heats, though blue or red are other options. Open flame can cause discoloration, and the quick swipe of a fingernail across the surface of the paper can have enough friction to generate the heat necessary for producing a mark on the paper.

Most thermal papers have a topcoating to protect the image from fading when exposed to UV light, oils, water, lard, grease, fats, or plasticizers. The topcoating additionally focuses the thermal printhead’s heat on the coating, lets flexographic printing inks better anchor to the paper, lessens the residue left on thermal printheads, and reduces printhead wear.

Re: How to be green? Re: How to be green? - Hi Evan It’s a great topic especially when it comes to going green and saving our planet. We all have a role to play and we are happy about the fact that we are into it. We have recently made our workplace greener and in the process the following changes have been implemented – 1. We provide paper invoices only if customers ask for them. Otherwise, all our invoicing is done electronically (a PDF via e-mail). 2. We have replaced the Paper Cups at our Cafeteria with Mugs for not only our in-house requirements but also for our clients. 3. We have also made it a Company policy to use only eco-friendly electronic appliances and that includes bulbs, air conditioners. 4. We are in the process of putting it into the Policy that the Employees will have to take to other transportation media – other than their personal vehicles – on at least a day per week to office. Hope we are on the right track. Regards,

We also have filled our kitchen with glasses and mugs, and also changed all the bulbs in our office to energy efficient ones. Some people are even going to the extent of putting out solar panel plates outside their window to power computers and other such devices. There's a lot you can do but it all depends on how much money you are willing to put into it.
