The ABC Method of Memory Jogging

Article Overview: You know how frustrating it can be when you've forgotten someone’s name. I see someone at the grocery store and recognize them but can remember where I know them from or their name. Usually I go about my shopping, but what if I need to recall their name? What if it was a business gathering and I had to remember their name? Well if you can get a moment to use this simple technique it will help you recall those lost names for all the faces you remember.

The ABC Method of Memory Jogging

The other day I was trying to recall a baseball player's name. He was a utility infielder for the New York Yankees in the late 1970's who had one memorable baseball moment when his sole home run for the season was a pinch hit grand slam, now what was his name? I couldn't remember, so in these cases I turn to my mental Rolodex and begin flipping through the alphabet. Did his name start with an A? I continue to go through each letter a, B, C, D, or an E? Did his name start with an F? The name comes to mind Fred! Remembering the name Fred then jogs the last name Stanley to mind and there's the name I was looking for.

Now it's not always that easy. Sometimes you have to run through the alphabet at least one time, just to warm up the gray matter and to get those neurotransmitters flowing. But usually by the second run through the name will be brought to memory when you hit the right letter.

Try this with other things as well. You could recall product names, places and other things as well when needed. You just need to take a moment to flip through the alphabet. Best of luck remembering, I hope this simple memory jogging exercise will help you remember the next time you've forgotten some ones name.
