Copywriting - what a waste of time

That's a strange thing for a freelance copywriter to be saying isn't it? Shouldn't I be shouting from the roof tops about how how a good copywriter will win your more customers and help make you more money? Or maybe that a pro freelance copywriter on the team offers you fast and effective competitive advantage, top search positioning and calls to action that turn prospects into customers? Well you can take that as read (or written even). Bad copywriting

It's not strong, well-worked, persuasive copywriting I have a problem with. It's BAD copywriting, ineffective copywriting that fails to address the audience, to relay the promise and ends up just wasting money. Not just money, time too. And there's the opportunity cost. What about reputation? What about customer confidence? You probably spend a small fortune on your online presence. Why spoil the ship for a ha'peth of shoddy copywriting.

Surely if anything is worth doing it's worth doing well and that includes copywriting. If you can't, if you think you can't or if you're too busy to apply yourself properly to your copywriting then hire in help.

You've only got one home page - make it count. What about your landing pages, your blog, your articles, your press releases? Are they, hand on heart, appealing to your prospects in a language they understand? Are they telling your story in a compelling way?

Make sure that your website is working for you and not against you with quality copywriting.

The Google spin cycle

If you outsource your content writing to a third party take care. Manage your copy quality and the way it's used carefully. The internet is awash with virtually unintelligible articles spun by machines or hacked together on copy farms for a few cents. SEO copywriting that exists exclusively for SEO purposes. Copywriting for machines that when read by humans makes you look cheap, makes you look shoddy and gives your readers the impression that really... you are not the kind of organisation that they should be spending their time and money dealing with. Is that how you want to be represented on line?

Copywriting - once it's up, it's up

Your reputation is at stake and who wants to be made to look stupid or amateur by going for a low rent copywriting option. SEO copywriting in the form of SEO articles and SEO press releases is easy to put up on line. It's not so easy to make it disappear if it's letting the side down.

Talk to a professional copywriter for advice on how an experienced freelance copywriter copy can help you build your business on and off line. Don't waste your time and money on bad copy.

I spent much of my adult life in the back of a Ford Transit. Bands, gigs, studios; there were close misses and a few cigarillos. I sneaked two deals – A&M and Manchester's very own Uglyman – had a radio hit and did the big in Japan thing with my band Nilon Bombers (who?). Did the ‘Best Song Award’ fling, with Silverman at the Playboy Mansions in L.A. There’s even a ghastly steel and glass trophy in an attic somewhere as testament to that one. Toured Ireland in the back of a cattle truck, recorded an album with (self-proclaimed) legend Kim Fowley - a once in a life time experience (hopefully). If you want original, insightful, inventive and highly presuasive copy. I'm your man.

It comes down to each individual. What may seem easy, fun, interesting, etc. to one person, may be totally lame and a waste of time to someone else.

Re: Time-Management Success Story! Re: Time-Management Success Story! - Hi David, Congratulation on spending your time so well. Time is life, the moment you waste it you waste your life. Every man rich or poor is giving 24 hours in a day. The way we spend it will determine where we get to in life. We can leverage our time also by outsourcing our task to other people
Re: Anyone Uses Elance.com? Guru.com? Rentacoder.com? Re: Anyone Uses Elance.com? Guru.com? Rentacoder.com? - [quote="litekepr":20i29h8l] One of the issues is that their revised fee schedule penalizes people who bid on a lot of projects. I don't need a lot of work to pay the bills, but Elance needs to work on the vast number of projects that are posted, but never happen. I've suggested that they offer some kind of instruction to people who post jobs. I've talked with more people on there that have no idea how to ask or answer questions and so they simply abandon the project. I don't know about others, but I put significant work into coming up with a realistic bid and its a shame to waste the time searching and bidding only to have many of the projects left open. Easily 80% of the jobs I placed bids on - appeared to never be completed. That's a BIG waste of time and effort. Shri[/quote:20i29h8l] Hi Shri, I agree that it can become a waste of time, and it's a shame that so many projects go unfinished. I guess we'll just have to look for other avenues to find work, like some that were suggested. Alan
