8 things to do with an article
If you're going to take the time and trouble to write an article, I'm a big believer that you should try to re-use it as many times as you possibly can. Apart from the reason you've written it in the first place, which presumably one of the reasons is to help your build your credibility as an expert, here are eight other things you can do once you've completed your article:
Blogs or on-line diaries are a great place for you to express your opinion or publish views and news. You can set one up for free using Blogger or Wordpress and then once you've got one, you'll be able to copy and paste your
article in here to help you build your
credibility throughout the internet.
If you type "free
article websites" into Google, you'll come up with thousands of sites where you can publish your
article for free. Not only does this help build your
credibility on the internet, but if you include a link back to your site, it will help bring new visitors to your website.
- 3. Use it in your newsletter
If you have a newsletter, you can use the
article you've written in there to save you having to come up with something new.
- 4. Send it out as tips to your contacts
If you don't have a newsletter, you could just use the
article to send to your contacts. Giving your contacts free
tips and items of value is a great way to build a
relationship with them and convince them that they might want to work with you in the future.
- 5. Use your article in other people's newsletters
I'm sure you've got several contacts that already publish a newsletter. Why not ask them if they'd be willing to use your
article in their newsletter? Not only does it save them a
job (they don't have to think of something to write that week), it also strengthens your
relationship and gives you an opportunity to work together.
Once you've written your article, you could record it onto an
audio recording and give it or sell it as a CD, send it out to your contacts or even send it into to your local
radio station to see if they want to work with you in the future.
- 7. Publish it in a magazine or a newspaper
Once you've written an article, why not send it out to
magazines and newspapers that your
customers are likely to read. Many are looking for good quality articles that they can just use in their publication.
Once you've written a few articles, all you need to do is edit and format them and you've got your first book!
Whatever you choose to do with your article, it's such a shame if you spend a lot of
time writing and putting it together to use it just the once. Make sure you use your
article as much as possible and you'll be well on your way to establishing yourself as an expert in your field.

Scoping Your Articles for Ghostwriters
- Martin,
can you advise your process for scoping out the work for article writing.
specifically,
1. How do you scope the boundaries of the article? (is it by the Keywords?)
2. How many keywords do you provide to the ghostwriter for an article of a certain size?
3. How do you measure quality? (is it just your impression that the article is good)?
4. Who owns the article?
5. How do you know that this article is not published elsewhere on the Internet?
Thanks
Re: Online Article Marketing - Free & Done Correctly
- Hi, I do several things with article marketing. I write my own articles, have articles written and rewrite PLR articles. If it was up to my writing ability alone I would have a hard time with 1 article a week. Rewriting PLR articles using keywords I choose is my first choice. It does take a little time to pick an article to rewrite because I want them to be topic for my website plus they need to written well. Even when rewriting articles if an article does not flow well it will take much more work to rewrite it.
Many online marketers only submit their articles to a select few article directories. It works well for them. I have a dual purpose in article writing and need my articles to go to as many directories as possible. My number one purpose is to create backlinks. If I only submitted 3 articles a week to 5 directories they would not help much in creating the backlinks I need. My second purpose is to draw traffic to my site. Again, and in my opinion, if I submitted to just a handful of sites I feel I would be defeating my purpose. So I had to find a program that would submit to a lot of directories and one that also submitted to quality directories. I found what I needed with one submission service. Now each article can bring 60-70 backlinks and I see weekly visitors from several article directories in my stats.
That is my article marketing strategy and it has been working for me.
A Great Heads Up
- Thanks Melanie.
It's useful to be aware that whilst there are others out there, just like you (your client), it isn't a failure when things take time to take off.
And the real cruncher is to have clear expectations at the start, whilst being prepared when things might take you along a different route as well.
This 'serendipity' comes when you are able to let go of the consequences of your actions, as well as being prepared to be curious about things and (in the UK we call it) 'nosy' enough to follow your intuition.
Last week, I got sent an e-mail from one of the article websites that I use. If you do any article marketing and especially if you subscribe using an automatic submitter for some sites, you get these all the time - I usually use the filter to send them straight ot my discard bin.
This one was a bit unusual, so I took a look rather than manually bin it. It wasn't 'attractive message' unusual, I just hadn't seen it before.
So, I followed my instinct and clicked through. nothing exceptional about the site, but the first article piqued my interest - so I read it and followed the link. It was to someone 12,000 miles away with a complementary product.
I've already done the hour-long audio and we are now in the process of seeing what other synergies are possible.
I was able to free up my own head-space to allow me to do this - and, all for free.
On the second point (from Louis), article marketing, as long as your articles are good and not spread to thickly across the internet are a fabulous way to build links in as well as building traffic from curious readers.
(In fact, articles take no time at all to write. I can sense two coming right from this piece I've written!)
And who knows where that business might bring you - the fun is also in the not knowing!
Re: Blogging for Entrepreneurs
- One of the good things about blog posts is that they don't have to be very long. I tend to vary the length of my posts...
Nowadays, if I have more to say about something I first make an article for my website and then post a teaser on my blog with a link through to the article.
Re: Kevin's Case Study #13 - What Makes Up a Good Newsletter?
- Gt makes a very good point here. Particularly on the internet people do not like to spend time reading long drawn out article, they tend rather to scan the things they read and if too long will invariably give up and move on to something else. The best is to get to the point of the article quickly and concisely so as to hold people's interest.
