Do people know what you do?

Written by: Helen Dowling

Article Overview: I was with a business contact of mine the other day and mentioned a project that we were working on for a client of ours. To my surprise he said to me, “I didn’t know you did that!”

Do people know what you do?

That made me think. Just because YOU know what you do, does that mean other people do? Remember, people will have probably seen you wearing different hats and may not necessarily associate you with EVERYTHING that you do.

That's why it's so important to just remind your contacts occasionally about what you're doing. You may think that they know about the latest product or service that you've introduced recently, but how will they know unless you have taken the time and trouble to tell them?

The contact I was talking to knew that we did the marketing workshops and produced various products like the CD, but he didn't realise that we also DO marketing for small businesses and can also do the marketing for them too. Here's just an example of what we've done for our clients:

And many, many more...

We're happy to do just one of the activities mentioned above, but we can also implement a combination of marketing ideas too. And if there's something you want that you don't see, please don't hesitate to ask.

For me, this conversation was an excellent reminder that all of us need to jog the memories of our contacts occasionally and tell them again what we do.

So, hopefully I've let YOU know what we do in more detail and reminded you - so, when will you be reminding your contacts?

Re: Create your own small business reality show Re: Create your own small business reality show - That's very true. I know I would work harder. But you're right....people like to see other people fail (sad to say) so I'm sure they'd watch it either way. Reality really keeps people interested. I think it's a way for some people to escape their own crazy lives for a while and/or a way to let them know they aren't the only one having a tough time.
Re: EC Forums Mentioned in the Financial Post Re: EC Forums Mentioned in the Financial Post - Hi Russell - don't worry about it! I always love getting feedback and some of the best ideas have come from people making suggestions. The forums themselves actually came from an author who told me that there wasn't a way for people to connect on the website! I appreciate all the kind words but if you look at the feedback that people give on the forums they always talk about the great people who are involved - it's the fantastic work that all of YOU do to make people feel welcomed and introduce interesting topics to discuss. Thank you!
Recruiting Recruiting - Bringing in the right people into the company is definitely the first step. I've only given on and hired a few people I wasn't confident about and each time I beat my head against the wall to train them. Its just not worth it to bring in the wrong people. Much better to hold out and hire people that are "rigth" for the job. Shri
Shy People, Shy People, - Hi Nikki, Why are people shy? They can be either the Passive and Reserved ones or they don't want to be found foolish in the company of other people. Often fear plays a role, because of what other folks thinks about them. There are two groups of shy people: One group likes to meet people to share their concern and emotions, but they can also be critical and mostly reluctant to speak. The other group are task people. They prefere to do it alone and have a lot questions. I believe, the internet is a good portal for shy people. They don't face direct intimidation, therefore they can express themselves without being ostracised. Hope, that helps. Kindest Regards Beat "Unlock People's Potentials!"
Re: Think Big, think Rich, think Millionaire, think Freedom! Re: Think Big, think Rich, think Millionaire, think Freedom! - [quote="bmueller47":2yq5059b]Rich people admire other rich and successful people. Poor people resent rich and successful people. (This is important, too — it seems to hold true among my friends.)[/quote:2yq5059b] Hi Beat, To build on the point you outlined, I would say that rich people typically think cooperation, while poor people think competition. Entrepreneurs should come up with creative ways in which they can grow with others in their industry, rather than try to put one another out of business.
