You are a service company or a consultancy and you want to regularly provide industry or market reports for your customers. How do you price them?

If you are producing the reports from internal staff knowledge then this is easier as simply take your production costs and add an amount for your profits. You can calculate your production costs by looking at your staffing charge out rates for the time it takes to write, produce and send out your reports. Your profits can be quite high. You should look at pricing of similar reports and try and stay within the market price points.

If your reports are more complex and come from sources that you pay for, then there are two ways to price your reports:

1) Look at the market and see what other similar reports cost. Then include information that you can afford to put in, at this price.

2) The harder way is to calculate how many reports you think you will sell in a year. Add up the cost of providing the costs and then divide this by the number of reports. Now add a percentage for your profit. The profit should cover your management costs for running your business for a year and giving you a fair income. You should then compare this cost with the market. If you are below the norm - then add some more to the report or sell it on its low price. If you are above the norm the sell it emphasising the quality and quantity of information - or adjust your prices.

It might be an idea to have a cheaper price report to tempt your customers and then have a higher price item as an upgrade or to have several levels of reports.

You could look at several ways to provide the reports:

· PDF document.

· On CD or DVD.

· In a MSPowerpoint presentation.

· On a memory stick.

· As printed and bound report.

If the report is digital you might look at setting up an autoresponder to deliver the report.

Re: How Not To Start A New Business - Well, these guys these guys will not succeed at all. they need to have a way of doing things. First thing first, which market segment are they targeting? Or are they in the same segment the previous magazine was. They also need to understand the trends, currently people read online magazines so they need a website. After that they need to develop the marketing mix, which will guide them in their marketing activities. This marketing mix will be made of 4 Ps, which are Product, Place,Price and Promotion. I will assume the magazine is the product, the first P, The Price is what is the role the price will play in the market, do they want premium price, or do they want to skim the market. The other P, they need to have, is the Place, this will help in having a strategy on where to place their magazines, this includes the websites, malls, newspaper stands etc. The final P they need to develop is the Promotion, this is the advertising , channels, websites, forums, blogs, name it. Once they have done that, they can sit down and wait for money to come but not without superior customer service, otherwise without all this, they are wasting their time and money.

CEOs and Email - Slaves? - I wonder if the emails they are responding to are filtered thru their assistants first 'cos they seem to spend a lot of their off hours responding to them. True they are successful but I'm not sure I'd be willing to pay that price. I'd be interested to know what's the in the typical day planner of Entrepreneurs on the Forum. Entrepreneurs are a different breed than Paid Employees- so it would be interesting to view the contrast.
Fundraising for 3rd world Entrepreneurs - How great to learn that Evan is doing something for Entrepreneurs in Africa! It just makes me even more thankful to be part of this forum! After helping create a new charity for animals in my local community last year, I created a vision for a charity empowering Women Entrepreneurs. It won't happen for a while yet, but I know it is something I will do within the next few years. As we allow ourselves to think bigger, the opportunity to impact people becomes much bigger as well. Does anyone else have a desire to really make a difference in the world through this means?
