Bitch and complain - or pick up the phone?

Despite the awards I have won as the President of Find New Customers (Such as a Top 50 Most Influential in Sales Lead Management) and (Top 25 Sales and Marketing Inflencers for 2012), a couple of well-known people bad-mouth me. Severely. No big deal. As Celebrity CMO Jeffrey Hayzlett (who was a guest on Mad Marketing TV) told me "Don't pay attention to the nay-sayers. Just prove them wrong with your success." Amen, Jeffrey.

We recently redid this blog for 2012 - a top to bottom total redesign. As the Fearless Competitor, we decided that the best image of fearless would be the King of Beasts. So I had a new logo made with a stylized lion head. (Find New Customers logo below)

One day my phone rang. It was the sales expert, Robert Terson. He was upset that I was using the lion symbol, as it's his brand symbol for both his website (sellingfearlessly.com) and upcoming book "Selling Fearlessly." (see lion head below).

I had seen his book and his profile picture, but it never crossed my mind when we considered the change. Bob and I had a nice chat, he explained his concerns, and I agreed to come up with a new symbol. I asked my graphics designer to come up with a new image. He's working on it.

The difference between Bob and the women that bad-mouth me struck me. It's a basic issue of human nature. Some get mad and bitch. A few (like Robert Terson) pick up the phone, talk to the "offender" and solve the problem. The latter works a hell of a lot better.

The moral: If you have an issue with someone, don't just complain. Instead, pick up the phone and call them.

What do you think? We love comments and those who share.

Re: Those Annoying Telemarketers Re: Those Annoying Telemarketers - Hi Russell, Nice result! I can see why you'd want to pick up the phone every time! It is true that I work in a phone-free bubble! Here in Japan, if and when I recruit new students it seldom happens via telephone, or rather, the telephone is not the first point of contact but the final clincher.
Re: What's the best anti-virus/spyware software? Re: What's the best anti-virus/spyware software? - Hi Tanny, Thanks for sharing those key points from that interview. The first one, SMS viruses, is something I've never thought of before. Luckily I don't own a phone that is OS capable. It certainly is a good point and something phone companies should be taking seriously. It would be just as devastating to have your entire phone wiped out from a virus as a computer would be. I suppose there would have to be a way to backup your phone contents as well, in case something ever would happen. The only backup feature my phone has is with the capability of backing up all of my contacts and storing them on my online account where I have access to them from the computer. It's a very handy feature to have.
Re: SEEKING PRIVATE OR ANGEL INVESTOR Re: SEEKING PRIVATE OR ANGEL INVESTOR - Do a Google search for Angel Investors. You will have many options to choose from. I think SCORES is one but I am not sure. Don't email them, pick up the phone and contact as many as you can. You need too have a rock solid business plan for these investors to even smile at the notion. Good luck with your journey.
JW Site redesign JW Site redesign - I agree the Font is a little small. Also on the homepage I believe it will be effective for you to display an offer to sample your services - I believe you had one in your previous site. This is only constructive feedback.... I'm not sure about the length of the "quote" page - possibly too many questions. I wouldn't fill it out after seeing it but would pick up the phone to call you and deliver my thoughts over the phone. Maybe if you reduce the questions down to three/five questions without me having to explain in detail what I am looking for - I would complete it. One of your final questions would be: what's the best time to contact you? You can call the prospect then to get more details and you would record it during that session. I did this when I ran my webdesign company and it worked really well. my questions were: Name? Telephone? Email? Briefly describe your ideal website? Best day and time to call? I captured the details during the call-back.

It happened to husband and they had to completely format his phone, lucky for him, I sync the phones with my computer all the time.
