What’s the measurable value of blog syndication?

Guest post by: Jeff Ogden

Article Overview: Blogs are powerful B2B marketing tools. Great for inbound links, thought leadership, search engine optimization. But what specifically is the benefit of syndication - sharing automatically with authoritative sites? We asked a top expert, Tom Pick.

What’s the measurable value of blog syndication?

B2B Lead Generation | The Power of Blog Syndication

Since this blog is highly syndicated, I asked that question of expert, Tom Pick of KC Associates, as he is a top expert in this.
Here is his thoughtful reply:
  1. Syndication builds blog traffic: as I note in this post, in addition to the link/SEO value, syndication drives about 6% of all traffic to my blog: http://webbiquity.com/business-blogging/how-to-get-more-blog-traffic-real-world-data/
  2. It improves search ranking: links are crucial to generating search rankings and traffic. While it's impossible to precisely quantify this, in general, links from higher-traffic and high authority sites (e.g. b2bmarketingzone.com, socialmediainformer.com, Technorati) have more SEO value than links from general directories and syndication sites (see http://webbiquity.com/business-blogging/100-blog-directories-and-rss-sites-for-promoting-your-blog/) (though even those links have some value).
  3. It increases your influence. Syndication "gets your name out" and positions you as a thought-leader in your industry. What does that do for you? It generates more Twitter followers, blog readers, searches for your specific name or brand, and additional links to your content (which, again, helps with SEO). In terms of generating business results from that increased traffic, see http://webbiquity.com/business-blogging/20-ways-to-generate-roi-from-a-corporate-blog/

Thanks Tom. What do you think? We love comments and those who share.

Re: Alexa Ranking Goals Re: Alexa Ranking Goals - My goal for Alexa is to get my blogger blog into the top 100K just to prove that blogger is a viable option. Yes, it has its limitations, but I'm just under 314K now after only 4 months since I started this new blog. The main method for driving traffic, especially through SEO, that I have been using is content syndication. I am about to start a new discussion on this topic as I have searched and not found anything so far.
Re: How to gain more website traffic? Re: How to gain more website traffic? - I agree with Michelle. It's an ongoing process and need to do everyday. If you leave at some point the traffic will drop. You can do following things: bookmarking of blog posts ( I am trying to find a perfect software to automate bookmarking process). article marketing (to get one way links) blog commenting (another way to get links) video syndication (try tubemogul.) forum discussion ( this is an organic traffic) Go for organic and sustainable traffic than looking at paid ones. Hope this helps along with other contribution. Thanks, Robert
