Is It True About Internet Marketing?

Is It True About Internet Marketing?

We won’t waste your time and make you read the entire article to get the answer, so here it is: Yes, everything you have heard about internet marketing, good or bad, is true.

Now, unfortunately, you have another question to answer, which is: How can everything you hear about internet marketing, good and bad, be true?

If the ultimate purpose of marketing is to improve your company’s revenue, then internet marketing is capable of anything, from being an overhead drain on resources, to creating new revenue streams like your company has never seen.

To discover how this is so, let’s look at why internet marketing might be useful.

Internet marketing can be very cost effective. It starts with your company’s presence on the web, usually in the form of a web site. Many businesses have enough tech knowledge to create a small site in-house. If not, there is an abundance of web development companies that will create a web site for relatively low cost. Even if you choose a proper internet marketing company, you can create your web presence for little more than a four-colour ad in a trade magazine.

The internet is perhaps the most flexible of marketing media. Programs are launched quickly and adjusted even faster. Messages can be tailored to very specific segments; more so than with other marketing media. You can approach customers at any point in their buying cycle. The unprecedented ability to measure customer response, through detailed visitor and user statistics, allows you to fine-tune your marketing for the highest return on investment.

Each day, more of your potential customers use the internet to find products and services like yours. Almost 75% of North Americans, or a quarter of a billion people, use the internet. It’s not just individuals, but businesses are increasingly using the internet to find and research suppliers. In the end, the internet is quickly becoming (if it isn’t already) the primary source for buying decision information for both businesses and consumers.

Not only are customers searching for your company on the internet, they are probably talking about it too. Social media, forums and blogs are among the many ways that consumers pass information to one another on the web. Search for your name, your product or something pertinent to your company and there is a good chance you will find it the subject of a web conversation. Through internet marketing, you can become part of the conversation.

But, what about the bad stuff we spoke of earlier? In a nutshell, each internet marketing advantage can just as easily become a disadvantage. Low cost sites can quickly become money pits. You miss a huge market if your site isn’t found when customers search for your company or products. If you don’t find and participate in the conversations about your business, others will influence the buying decisions of your customers.

In the end, your internet marketing will be what you make of it. Done well, the potential is virtually limitless; done poorly and your company will never benefit.
